The present invention relates generally to new and useful improvements in cuff links and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a fastener of this character of the French type which is adapted for use on barrel style cuffs.

Another very important object of the invention is toprovide a cuff link of the aforementioned character which, when in use, conceals the usual button of a barrel cuff and which, further, may be successfully used on this type of cuff even tho the button be missing.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a cuff link of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong,

durable, compact, light in weight, attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured at low cost.

All of the foregoing and still further objects W and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specifica tion, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a barrel cuff.

Figure 2 is an elevational view of a barrel cuff with a link in accordance with the present invention mounted thereon.

Figure 3 is a view in side elevation, showing the link in use.

Figure f is a vertical sectional view, taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 2.

Figure 5 is a perspective view of the clamp member or unit.

Figure 6 is a perspective view of the female member.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a clamp which is designated generally by the reference numeral it. The clamp I is adapted to be mounted on the button side ll of a conventional barrel cuff i2. Toward this end, the clamp Ill includes a bendable, substantially U-shaped bar is of suitable resilient material which is adapted to straddle a portion 1 l of the cuff [2 in the manler shown to advantage in Figure 4 of the drawing. Formed integrally with the outer end of the bar 63 is a substantially cup shaped stationary jaw it which accommodates the usual cuff button and which includes an undulated free edge or face it which is engageable with the cuff. A. suitable ornament H is secured on the jaw I4.

At its inner end the bar 13 terminates in a tapped eye l8. Threadedly mounted in the eye [8 is a shank I9 having formed integrally with one end thereof an adjustible jaw provided with a notched or toothed periphery 2| to facilitate manual adjustment. The jaw 20 is engageable with the inner side of the portion ll of the shirt cuff for pressing same, together with the button [5, outwardly into the substantially cup shaped outer jaw l4. At its other end, the shank l5 terminates in a ball head 22 constituting the male member of a separable fastener.

Mounted on the button hole side 23 of the cuff i2 is the female member 24 of the aforementioned separable fastener. The member 24 includes a resilient socket 25 for the reception of the head 22. As also shown to advantage in Figure 4 of the drawing, the female member 24 is mounted in the usual button hole 26 of the cuff 12. Toward this end, the socket member 25 is formed to provide a reduced neck portion 21 which passes through the button hole 26. Mounted on the outer portion of the socket member 25 is suitable ornament 28.

It is thought that the manner in which the invention is used will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, the side portion l l of the cuff i2 is inserted in the clamp H! with the button l5 engaged in the substantially cup shaped, stationary outer jaw M. The screw shank I9 is then turned in the tapped eye l8 of the bar I3 for clamping the cuff between the jaws l4 and 20. It will thus be seen that the substantially cup shaped jaw it completely conceals the button I5. Also, the button l5 may assist in anchoring the clamp Ill in position on the cuff. The female member 24 is then mounted in the button hole 26 of the cuff I2 with the socket 25 innermost. The head 22 is then snapped into the socket 25 for detachably connecting the units In and 24. Of course, to open the cuff I2 the units in and 24 are simply separated. Although the invention is primarily intended for use on barrel cuffs, it may also be used on French type cuffs if desired.

It is believed that the many advantages of a cuff link constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. For use on a cuff having a button hole therein, a link including a socket member mounted in the button hole, a substantially U-shaped clamp mounted on the cuff, this clamp including a stationary jaw on one end and further including an adjustable jaw threadedly mounted on its other end and cooperable with the stationary jaw for securing the cult therebetween, and a member on the second named jaw engageable in the socket member for detachably connecting the clamp thereto.

2. For use on a cufl. having a button hole in one side portion thereof, a link comprising a socket member mounted in the button hole, a substantially U-shaped clamp mounted on the other side portion of the cuff, said clamp straddling the cufi and including stationary and adjustable outer and inner jaws, respectively, securing the end therebetween, and a head on the inner jaw engageable in the socket member for detachably connecting the clamp thereto.

For use on a cufi having a button hole in one side portion and a button on its other side portion, a link comprising a socket member mounted in the button hole, and a clamp removably mounted on the other side portion of the cuflf, said clamp comprising a substantially U-shaped bar straddling the end, a substantially cupped shaped stationary jaw on one end of the bar enclosing the button, a shank threadedly mounted for adjustment in the other end portion of the bar, a jaw on one end of the shank cooperable with the stationary jaw for clamping the cuff therebetween, and a head on the other end of the shank engageable in the socket member for detachably connecting the clamp thereto.
