'The present inventionrelates to' new anduseful improvements in protectors for caps to prevent crushing of the visor or other parts "of. the cap when packed for traveling.

Animportant object of the invention is *toprovide a rigid internal reinforcement for .the sides and visor of a cap to prevent bending or .crushing thereof and also to provide the protector with a closure at the underside .of the cap to formra compartment on the inside of the cap' and within which various articles may be packed.

A further object of the invention is to provide a covering for the outer surface of the cap constructed as a part of the internal cap protector.

A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction; which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive tomanufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the internal protector and cover placed in position on a cap.

Figure 2 is a similar view of the top of the cover.

Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on a line 33 of Figure 2 and Figure 4 is a fragmentary perspective view of the fastener for the adjustable band.

Referring now to the drawing in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 4 designates the combined cap protector and compartment generally adapted for placing inside a cap 3. The cap protector and compartment 4 comprises a band 5 of spring steel or other suitable material forming the annular walls of the compartment and to the outer surface of which one end of an adjustable resilient strap 6 is riveted or otherwise suitably secured and provided at its free end with a hook or fastener 1 selectively engaged in a row of openings 8 in band 5 to hold the strap in adjusted position either flat against the band, or in an outwardly bulged position, as shown by dotted lines in Figure 4, to adjust the circumference of band 5 for tightly fitting in the cap when the latter is inverted. A bottom member IU of cloth or other suitable flexible material is suitably secured to the lower edge of band 5.

A visor protector l l ofsuitable rigid material is suitablysecured to a, portion ofthe upper edge of band 5 at-a point diametrically opposite from-adjustable strap 6.

Atop member of cloth or other suitable flexible material is suitably secured to the edges of the visor protector H as well as tothe upperedge of band 5 to close the top of-the cap protector. Top member is formed-with an opening it provided with a zipper fastener 14.

The cap protector-formed of the band 5, bottom member l0, visor protector H and top memberl2 are placed-on the-inside of-the inverted cap 3=with the'bottom member'l-fl against the insideof the top'of the cap as shown in Figure 3 of the drawing and with the visor protector H positioned on top of-theyisor H- of the inverted cap. Strap 6 is adjusted to tightlyiit ins-ide'the cap to thus prevent the sides or rim 18 of the cap from crushing while the rigid visor protector ii prevents the bending or crushing of the cap visor l1.

Top member l2 of the cap protector closes the cap at its open side to form a compartment therein and in which various articles may be packed and retained therein by closing the zipper fastener 14.

A cover [9 of cloth or other suitable flexible material is sewed or otherwise suitably secured at its edges to the marginal edge portions of top 7 member 12, the cover I9 being formed of a pair of sections 20 and 2| extending from front to rear of the cap protector at each side thereof and connected to each other at the center of the cap protector by a zipper fastener 22, the cover sections 20 and 2| thus being foldable over the outer surface of the cap as well as over the cap visor I! when the cap is placed therein to form an external protective cover for the en tire outer surface of the cap.

In the operation of the device, the zipper fastener 22 is opened and strap 6 is adjusted to the size of the cap to fit tightly in the cap when the compartment of the cap protector is placed therein to rigidly support the sides or rim it of the cap. The visor protector 'H is positioned under the visor I! of the cap and is held in close engagement therewith. v

Cover sections 20 and 2| are then folded over the top of the cap 3 and visor H, as shown in Figure 2, and secured to each other by the zipper fastener 22.

Zipper fastener l4 may then be opened to enable placing of various articles within the com partment formed by the band 5, bottom member I0 and top member l2.

In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.

It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. A cap protector comprising a compartment including a, rigid annular wall and at least a flexible top member connected along a part of its edge portion to the adjacent edge of a major portion of said wall, said compartment being adapted for placing within a cap, said top member having an opening adapted for placing articles in the compartment, external adjustable means carried by the wall of the compartment and adapted to adjust the external diameter of the compartment substantially to that of the internal diameter of the cap to support the rim of the cap from collapsing, said cap including a visor at its front portion, and a rigid visor protector having an inner edge connected to the upper front edge of the wall and projecting from the front portion of the wall of the compartment at a point diametrically opposite said adjustable means and adapted to be in a re-enforcing position against the visor of the cap, said visor protector including outer front and side edge portions to which the remainder of said edge portion of the top member is connected.

A cap protector comprising a compartment including a rigid annular wall, a flexible top member, and a flexible bottom member, and adapted for placing within a cap provided with a cap provided with a visor, said top member being connected along a part of its edge portion to an adjacent edge of a major portion of said wall, said top member having an opening adapted for placing articles in the compartment, external adjustable means carried by the wall of the compartment and adapted to adjust the external diameter of the compartment substantially to that of the internal diameter of the cap to support the rim of the cap from collapsing, a rigid visor protector having an inner edge connected to the upper front edge of the wall and projecting from the front portion of the wall of the compartment at a point diametrically opposite said adjustable means and adapted to be in a re-enforcing position against the visor of the cap, said visor protector including outer front and side edge portions to which the remainder of said edge portion of the top member is connected, said flexible bottom member being connected at its entire edge portion to an adjacent edge of the wall opposite to that of the top member, a flexible cover connected at its entire edge portion to the top member at the connected edges of the latter, said cover being composed of a pair of sections adapted for folding inwardly toward each other over the top of the cap, and fastening means securing the sections of the cover to each other in cap covering position.
