Patented Aug. 18, 1953 ATENT OFFICE SUPPLY STAND FOR ADHESIVE STRIP MATERIAL Johannes Skrebba, Lahr (Schwarzwald), Germany, assignor to Charles I. Tager, New York,
Application April 15, 1952, Serial No. 282,315 In Germany April 16, 1951 This invention refers to a reinforcing strip holding device or appliance for use in connection with paper and like perforators. Perforators have become known which work with paper strip supply devices for reinforcing the perforations or punched holes which are arranged at predetermined distance from each other. Generally such devices for advancing or supplying the paper strip should be readily accessible, in particular if replenishment of the paper strip roll is to be effectuated.
ln known perforators providing three spaced apart holes or perforations, it was heretofore not possible to reinforce the median perforation as it was difficult to advance the paper strip which was not readily accessible within the interior of the appliance.
The present invention overcomes these and other inconveniences and provides means affording an inexpensive and effective construction and the arrangement of parts of the paper roll holdn ing device or stand in such a manner that the paper roll may be easily withdrawn or manipulated upon insertion of the paper roll whereby the perforator may also be employed for reinforcing the median hole or perforation. The appliance according to the invention will be readily understood from the ensuing specification and drawing in which:
Fig. l shows schematically in section an appliance made in accordance with the invention with the paper roll arranged in extended position.
Fig. 2 shows the appliance of Fig. 1 with paper roll in intermediate position.
Fig. 3 shows the appliance of Fig. 1 with paper roll in final operative position.
Referring vnow more particularly to the drawing, there is shown a paper or like strip feed mechanism removably mounted on stand ZIB but Ishown in extended position for facilitating loading of a paper roll 'I on a carrier 4. One of the side walls of the stand 20 is cut off in order to expose to view the interior of the stand whereby the operation of the mechanism may be readily recognized.
In each of the side walls I are provided two pairs of substantially horizontal slots 2 and 3 which are interconnected by a pair of substantially vertical slots terminating in lower slot parts or recesses I8 reduced in width as compared With the upper parts of Slots 2. Slots 3 receive rst the ends of guide pin (Fig. 1) and then pin B (Fig. 2), which pins are mounted on opposite faces of handle plate I-Ba and a predetermined distance apart from each other (Fig. 3), whereby 3 Claims. E242-55.2)
they fit the slots (Fig. 3) and snap in position in stand 20, as may be readily realized. The spaced bearing plates 4 forming a carrier for the paper roll 1 are mounted on handle plate Ita. Paper roll 'I has a core 8 with axle or pin 9, the ends of which are insertable in slots 8a of said bearing plates 4.
The forward end I0 of the paper strip is pressed onto a guide roll I I which may be provided with a suitable lining IIa, such as rubber. This guide roll II is movable and swingable together with the paper roll vplates 4 xed to handle plate Ia by manipulation of handle I6. Guide roll II is supported by a leaf spring I2 acting on the axle I3 of roll II. A grooved transporting roll I4 is arranged on lugs Illa. of the side walls I and is rotatably supported thereon by means of a pin orr axle I5.
Upon lifting the handle I6 from the position as shown in Fig. 1, the ends of guide pin 5 of the handle plate [Ba enter first slots 3 while the ends of guide pins 6 abut against the front edges of the side walls I of the stand and are then inserted into slots 3 by further lifting and forwardly pushing handle I6. During this insertion of the pin-s 5, 6 the guide roll I I together with the paper roll end l0 is being guided underneath the transporting roll I4, as seen in Fig. 2.
As soon as the guide pin 5 has reached the ends I'I of the horizontal slots 2, the handle pin 6 will be pressed downwardly from the position shown in Fig. 2 into a position seen in Fig. 3 so that the guide pin 5 is seated in recesses I8 of the guide slots 2. The handle I6 in such case snaps into position while leaf spring I2 together with the guide roll II presses the gummed paper strip against the transporting roll I4. The transporting roll I4 is actuated as usual by means of a pressure lever (not shown) to advance the gummed paper strip. Thus upon operation of such lever in downward direction the paper strip is fed and received below the punch-hole and cutting device of the perforation appliance. The removal of the supply roll carrier occurs in the sequence and directions of arrows A, B, C.
It can thus be seen that there has been provided according to this invention a device for holding a supply roll of reinforcing paper and like strip for use in connection with perforators comprising a carrier for receiving said supply roll, a handle plate for supporting said carrier and provided with spaced apart guide pins, a stand for receiving said carrier with said supply roll and provided with pairs of horizontal parallel slots and with a pair of vertical slots interconnecting said pairs of horizontal slots, said pins being insertable in said horizontal and vertical slots successively to thereby secure said carrier in position on said stand, and roll means, respectively, arranged on said handle plate and on one end of said stand and engageable witheach other upon securing said carrier in said position on said stand whereby said strip from said supply roll may be fed through said roll means to said perforator.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured byLet ters Patent, is:
i. A device for holding a supply roll of reinforcing paper and like strip for use in connection with perforators comprising a carrier for receiving said supply roll, a handle plate for Supporting said carrier and provided with spaced apart .guide pins, a stand for receiving said carrier with said supply roll and provided with pairs of horizontal parallel slots and with a pair of vertical slots interconnecting said pairs of horizontal slots, said pins being insertable in said horizontal and vertical slots successively to thereby secure said oarrier in position on said stand, and roll means, respectively, arranged on said handle plate .and on one end of said stand and engageable with each other upon securing said carrier in said position on said stand whereby said strip from said supply roll may be fed through said roll means to said perforator.
2. A device for supplying a reinforcing paper and like strip to a perforator and like appliance, comprising a stand having side walls each provided With two pairs of parallel horizontal guide slots, a pair of substantially vertical guide slots interconnecting said pairs of horizontal guide slots, first roll means journaled at one end of said stand, carrier means for supporting a supply roll of said paper strip, handle means associated with said carrier and provided with spaced apart guide pins, and second roll means springedly supported at one end of said handle means, whereby one of said pins may be first inserted in one pair of said horizontal slots and then swung by said handle means into engagement with said pair of vertical slots and nally into engagement with said second pair of horizontal slots While said second pin moves from said rst pair of horizontal slots for engagement with said pair of vertical slots, whereby .said stand with said supply roll is locked on said stand and .Said roll means are brought into engagement with each other for feeding a paper strip from said supply roll through both said roll means.
`3. A holder for a supply roll of reinforcing paper Strip and like strip material, comprising a carrier for said supply roll and including a handle provided with spaced apart guide pins, a stand -for receiving said .carrier and provided with two pairs of substantially horizontal parallel slots and with a -pair of vertical slots intermediate said pairs of horizontal slots, said pins being insertable in said slots to secure said carrier in position on said stand, and roll means, respectively, arranged on said handle and on said stand and engageable with each other upon securing said carrier in position on said stand, one of said roll means being springedly supported to provide frictional engagement of said paper strip from said supply roll between said roll means for feeding said paper strip.
