1 Claim. (01. 81 -32) This invention relates to a holding device and although it is particularly adapted to hold leaders and fish hooks it may be employed to hold other similar objects.
An important object of the invention is to provide a holding device which can be retained in a variety of adjusted positions relative to a support, which is relatively simple in design and construction, which is sturdy and which is easy to operate.
Another object of the invention is to provide a holding device which will allow for a maximum amount of exposure of the object supported therein.
These, together with various ancillary objects and features of the invention which will later become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by the device, a preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated by way of example only in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the device, parts being broken away and shown in section to illustrate details of construction;
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figurel;
Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view similar to Figure 2 Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 3; and
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 55 of Figure 1.
Specific reference is now made to the drawings. In the several views in the accompanying drawings and in the following specification reference characters indicate corresponding ele ments throughout.
The present holding device comprises a 0- clamp I having a bight portion 12 and leg portions I4 and I6, the leg portion [6 threadedly' receiving a rotatable screw 16 having a handle 20 at one end and a bearing plate 22 atthe other so that a support may be grasped between the bearing plate and leg portion M in a man-' ner readily understood. The leg portion I4 is provided with a lateral internally threaded bore 24 for receiving the externally threaded end 26 of a rod 28, the threaded end 26 receiving a lock nut 30 to hold the rod infixed adjusted position on the clamp. The other end flattened portion 34, as shown in Figure 5. An
externally threaded bolt '42 extends through the.
flattened portions and carries a head 44 at one of its ends. When the bolt is loosened the rods 36 and 28 may be moved in a variety of relative positions and held in one adjusted position by retightening thebolt.
The other end of the second rod 36 is reduced as at 46, the reduced end being externally threaded as at 48. Extending axially through the reduced end is an internally threaded socket which receives the externally threaded end 52 of a narrower rod or shank 54 which is held in adjusted fixed position on the rod 36 by an appropriate lock nut 56. Adjacent its free end, the rod 54 is provided with a longitudinal slot 58 for receiving therethrough a portion of an object 60 such as a fish hook, leader, etc;
Adjustably received on the threaded end 48 of the rod 36 is a knurled cap nut 62 which is internally threaded as at 64 and which has a tapered portion 66 through which extends a smooth bore 68 which slidably embraces the narrower rod 54. Slidable on the rod 54 is a tube 10 having one end I2 that bears against the flat side 14 of the tapered end of the knurled nut, the other end of the tube including an axial recess or notch 16 adapted to receive and bear against the object 60.
In use, the rod 36 is retained in adjusted position on the rod 28 by means of the headed bolt 42. An object 60 such as a fish hook is positioned in the slot 58 and the knurled nut 62 is backed off the threaded end 48 of the rod 36. As the nut moves, the flat side 14 thereof bears against the end 12 of the slidable tube 10 moving the latter on the narrower rod 54 whereupon the recess or notch 16 engages the object 60, as shown in Figure 2, to firmly hold the latter wedged in the slot. In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings described and the scope of the appended claim,

A holder of the character described comprisinvention, what is 3 ing a rod including a threaded end portion having a longitudinal socket therein, a shank threadedly mounted in the socket and having a. work receiving slot therein, a tubular jaw slidable on the shank for clamping the work in one end portion of the slot, and a cap nut threadedly mounted for adjustment on the threaded end portion of the rod and engaged with the tubular jaw for engaging said jaw with the work.
