HAME FASTENER.
No. 264,207. Patented Sept. 12, 1882 N. PETERS, Phmomho m lm, Wuhinglon. I; G
- UNITED STATES JOHN VINCENT, OF ST. JAMES, MICHIGAN.
PATENT ()FFICE.
HAM E-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 264,207, dated September 12, 1882,
Application filed April 26, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN VINCENT, of St. James, in the county of Manitou and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hame- Straps; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of this invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the construction of metallic hame-straps, and are more especially designed for use upon heavy harnesses and the invention consists in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and combination of the parts, all as more fully hereinafter set forth.
Figure l is a perspective of my improved heme-strap. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal central section of the same.
In the accompanying drawings, Arepresents a metallic strap, provided with the flanges or upon each side or edge, and with the loop I) at one end.
B represents a ratchet-faced strap designed to slide between the flanges of the strap A, and is provided at one end with a loop, 6'.
C represents a ratchet-wheel journaled across the strap A, and D is a ratchet lever, which, when the parts are together, embraces and engages with the ratchet C.
In practice the two straps A B are secured by-means of their loops to the lower ends of the hame, and when it is desired to secure these ends of the hames together the strap B is inserted between the flanges of the strap A and beneath the ratchetwheel C, which may be turned with a proper key, orin any other suitable manner, so as to forcibly draw the two endsof the hames toward each other to firmly embrace the collar. After this is done the lever D is closed uprembracing the ratchet-wheel, which prevents its having any retrograde movement under the pressure brought to bear upon the hames.
I am aware of Patents Nos. 83,087, of 1868, and 240,666, of 1881, and such constructions are not sought to be covered in this application.
What I claim is The hame-fastener herein described, consisting of the metal strap A, having longitudinal edge flanges a and hook or loop I), formed of a single piece of metal, and furnishing journalbearings for the ratchet-wheel C and locking rack-lever D, and the ratchet-faced strap 13, having hook I), the whole combined and arianged to serve as and for the purpose set orth.
JOHN VINCENT.
