SAFETY BROOCH-FASTENING DEVICE Filed Nov. 14, 1952 I INVENTOR. lqqjddio firfjda quick/n21) Patented May 26, 1953 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SAFETY BROOCH-FASTENIN G DEVICE Augusto Enrique Hestermann, Malaver, Argentina Application November 14, 1952, Serial No. 320,460
'Claims. 1
My present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in brooches and more particularly refers to a safety brooch-fastening device.
The main object of my invention is to provide a safety brooch-fastening device adapted to be removably disposed on the usual pin of a brooch and so arranged and constructed that it efiiciently avoids the loss of the brooch which by means of said pin in co-operation with said device has been fastened to a dress or the like.
One object of the invention is to provide. a safety brooch-fastening device, comprising a tubular member for receiving the usual pin of a brooch and a catch means in connection with said tubular member for removably connecting the latter with a fixed part of the brooch and for preventing said tubular member from disengaging said brooch pin, with the advantageous results that this fastening device may be easily applied to a brooch and in use is entirely concealed below the ornament body of the brooch.
Another object of my invention is to provide a safety brooch-fastening device, comprising a tubular member for receiving the usual pin of a brooch, a longitudinal sheet attached to said tubular member and extending beyond one end thereof for removably connecting the same to a fixed part of the brooch, and a hook provided at the free end of said projecting sheet portion for engaging said fixed part of the brooch, the arrangement of said projecting sheet portion with regard to said tubular member being such that'a free space is provided between said sheet portion and the axis of said tubular member which advantageously facilitates the application of the brooch to a dress or the like.
Still another object of the invention is to provvide a safety brooch-fastening device of the class referred to, wherein the said tubular memberis provided with a slightly flaring end opening or with a funnel-shaped end portion with the advantageous result that the usual pin of a brooch -may be easily introduced into and through said tubular member.
An additional object of my invention is to provide an improved brooch, comprising an ornament body, a pin pivotally secured to said body and a hook provided at said body for engaging the free end of said pin; a tubular member rotatively disposed on said pin, a sheet portion attached to said tubular member and extending beyond one end of the latter for removably conthat the brooch applied to a dress or the like can not be lost.
With these objects and advantageous features in view, the present invention comprises the arrangement, combination and construction of parts as will be hereinafter fully described with particular reference to the accompanying drawing showing by way of example only a preferred embodiment of the invention and whereon:
Figure 1 is a plan view, and
Figure 2 is a side view of the brooch-fastening device according to the invention;
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view taken along the line 3-3 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 shows the way of applying the fastening device to the pin of a brooch; and
Figure 5 illustrates the fastening device in its operative position on the pin of a brooch,
Having reference to the accompanying drawing, the safety brooch-fastening device according to my present invention comprises a main tubular portion I which is substantially cylindrical. If desired, the same may be slightly conical and conveniently is provided with a conically widened end portion 2 for facilitating the insertion or entrance of the pin 3 of a brooch 4.
The tubular portion 1 forms part of a longitudinal sheet 5 (Figure 2) extending co-axially therewith and beyond the entrance opening 2,.at which said sheet reduces its breadth so as to form a small shoulder 6. At a short distance from the entrance opening 2 of the tubular portion I, the
longitudina1 sheet 5 is slightly bent as shown at I and beyond this bent portion 1 extends again in a direction parallel to the axis of the tubular portion I. This straight end portion 8 is formed at its free end with a hook 9.
In use the safety brooch-fastening device according to my invention is simply applied to the pin 3 of a brooch 4 as shown in Figures 4 and 5,
for which purpose said pin 3 at first is passed through the cloth I0 of a dress engaging about 2-3 mm. of said cloth as shown at l I, whereupon it is inserted into the mouth of the tube l and the free end portion of the pin 3 projecting beyond said tube is then again passed through the cloth l0 and finally is engaged in the hook [2 of the brooch. The engagement of the cloth portion II and of the tubular portion 1 of the device by the pin 3 of the brooch 4 by virtue of the shoulder is .rendered possible in such a manner that the fastening device may nevertheless be turned around said pin from the. position shown in Figure 4 to that of Figure 5, wherein the hook 9 engages the pin pivot l3 of the brooch 4 or the stud l4 carry- ,ing said pivot. The curved or bent portion 1 and the straight end portion 8 laterally removed from the axis of the tubular portion I also assist in facilitating the application of the fastening de- ;vice and the co-operation of the hook 9 with the pivot l3 or stud l4 prevents the pin 3 from disengaging the cloth I!) with the result that the brooch 4 can not be lost even in the case that said pin shouldibedisengagedby the heel: 12 of the brooch.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
