This invention relates to a lining for covering the joint between a door frame and a wall bordering said door frame. Hitherto, such linings consisted of solid fillets that were nailed to the door frame. which involved difficulties in concealing the nailing points. Furthermore, the fillet as a rule had to be provided with a longitudinally extending recess in the abutting surface to avoid the occurrence of a clearance, if the wall and the outer surfaces of the door frame were not located in the same plane.

The primary object of the invention is to overcome these deficiencies and to provide masking means in the form of a lining which is easy to secure and inexpensive in manufacture, while at the same time imparting to the door an attractive framing.

Further objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description considered in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification, and of which:

Fig. 1 is an elevation of a corner of a. door frame secured in a wall and provided with a lining embodying to the invention, a portion of said lining being cut away.

Referring to the drawing, designates a portion of a door frame and 12 a wall surrounding said door frame. The door frame is covered in a manner known per so with a plywood layer [4, and the joint between the frame and the wall is denoted by It. This joint is masked by a lining in the form of a cover member l8 consisting of plywood composed of a plurality of sheets, said plywood having been pressed so as to form a 1ongitudinall'y extending channel-like rib of U- shaped cross section, one leg 20 of said U being deeper than the other. The projecting edge portion 22 of the deeper leg is intended to be introduced into and fixed in slots 24 provided in the transverse and lateral members of the door frame and extending in the longitudinal direction thereof. The fixing of the projecting edge portion 22 in the slots 24 may be performed in any suitable manner, for instance by a clamping effect or a glueing operation. The slots 24 are inclined in a direction away from the joint. Consequently when the projecting edge portion 22 is introduced into the slot, the opposite and shallower leg of the masking member will abut against the wall I2, before the edge portion has been fully introduced. This causes the lining, which tends to maintain its initial shape, to be pressed with its shallower leg edge portion against the wall, when the edge portion 22 is entirely within the slot. In the embodiment illus-i trated the masking member or lining is composed of three veneer sheets, the grain of the intermediate sheet extending in the longitudinal direction and the grain of two outer sheets extending in the transverse direction of the lining. The sheets are preferably glued together by means of a thermosetting resin while being pressed between glazing plates, whereby a decorative and insensitive outer surface is given to the linings. The linings may be provided with supporting elements 26 arranged within their U-shaped section, at least at the ends abutting against one another when the lining is finally at place.

While one more or less specific embodiment of the invention has been shown, it is to be understood that this is for purpose of illustration only, and the invention is not to be limited thereby, but its scope is to be determined by the appended claims.

What I claim is:

1. In a wall structure, the combination with a frame member defining a portion of the perimeter of an opening in the wall, of means for masking the joint between said member and the adjoining portion of the wall comprising a plywood cover member of U-shaped channel section having one leg of the channel deeper than the other, the deeper leg of the channel being received and fixed in a cooperating slot extending lengthwise of said frame member in spaced relation to said joint and the shallower leg of said channel bearing in abutting and relatively slidable relation against the face of the adjoining wall structure lengthwise of and in spaced relation to said joint.

A structure as defined in claim 1 in which the slot inclines away from the joint in the direc tion of increasing depth of the slot, whereby to bring the shallower leg of the channel into abutting contact with the surface of the wall before the deeper leg of the channel is fully received in the slot.

3. A structure as defined in claim 1 in which said masking means includes a supporting element within said cover member.
