1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to mop assemblies and more particularly to a dusting mop including a frame and mop elements mounted on the. frame for easy removal for cleaning or replacement.
It is among the objects of the invention to provide an improved mop assembly of simplified construction including a double ended frame attachable to a mop handle and mop elements mounted one on each end of the frame for easy removal when it is desired to clean or replace such elements, which includes mop elements of fabric and yarn stitched together to provide frame receiving pocket formations and yarn strands firmly secured to these formations, which includes complementary mop elements of substantially the same shape and construction, and which is simple and durable in construction, economical to manufacture, neat and attractive in appearance, and easy to use.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the following description and the depending claim in conjunction with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a mop assembly illustrative of the invention showing the two mop elements in disconnected position upon the connecting frame;
Figure 2 is a transverse cross sectional view on the line 22 of Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a fragmentary cross sectional View on the line 33 of Figure 1 showing the manner in which a portion of the mo assembly is constructed.
With continued reference to the drawing, the mop assembly comprises, in general, a frame In and complementary mop elements II and 12.
The frame I is formed of wire of suitable length and diameter which wire is bent to provide an elongated frame having spaced apart and substantially parallel sides 13 and I4 joined at the opposite ends of the frame by semicircular end portions l5 and [6. The ends of the wire are brought together at the midlength location of the side [4 and are bent outwardly substantially at right angles to this side so that they extend in side by side relationship in a direction away from the side 13 to provide a tongue I1 for attaching a mop handle l8 to the frame.
The two mop elements II and I2 are substantially identical in construction and each includes a pocket formation 20 formed of suitable material, such as canvas, stitched together along its edges so that it has one closed end and one open end. The pocket so formed is of a width and length to closely receive one half of the wire 2 frame Hi with the closed end of' the frame in contact with the closed end of the pocket and the open end of the pocket in contact with the adjacent side of the tongue l1.
The manner of providing a group of strands around the closed end of the pocket is particularly illustrated in Figure 3. These strands 25 are folded at their midlength locations over the edge of the pocket at the closed end of the latter and over the adjacent transverse strands and, while in such folded or doubled condition are secured to the pocket at the closed end of the latter by two rows of stitching 26 extending arcuately around the closed end of the pocket in spaced apart relationship to each other. After the end strands are so secured to the pocket at the closed end of the latter the ends are folded back on the intermediate portions therof so that one end of each strand extends from one side or face of the pocket and the other end of each such strand extends from the other face of the pocket structure and, in effect, continue the formation provided by the strands 2| and 22 around the end of the pocket.
The mop assembly is provided by slipping mop units of the above described construction one on each end portion of the frame l0 until the open ends of th corresponding pocket formations are adjacent to each other at the midlength location of the frame. The mop elements may be held on the frame by friction or secured on the frame in any desired manner.
The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential characteristics thereof. The present embodiment is, therefore, to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claim rather than by the foregoing description, and all changes which come within the meaning and range of equivalency of the claim are. therefore, intended to be embraced therein.
What is claimed is:
A mop assembly comprising a frame and separate mop elements independently attachable to said frame, said frame comprising a narrow elongated loop of a single length of wire with the ends of the wire extending outwardly substantially at right angles from one side of said loop at the midlength location of the latter to provide a handle receiving tongue, and each of said mop elements comprising two layers of fabric, two layers of yarn strands disposed one layer at each outer side of said fabric layers with the strands in each strand layer arranged in side by side relationship and extending across said fabric layers and being continuous thereover, and rows of stitching extending transversely across said yarn strands and around the edges but leaving one end of said fabric layers free of said stitches to secure said strands to said fabric layers and provide between said fabric layers an elongated pocket open at one end to receive one end portion of said frame loop, and a plurality of additional strands secured to the closed ends of said pockets, said additional strands being folded over said closed ends and sewed to said closed ends and the adjacent first name strands, said aditional strands extending transversely with respect to said first named strands.
