The lower end of rod 28 is connected to a lever rocking abouta fixed stud 35 on a stationary stand 31 secured to the loom4 frame.' The rear part of lever 35 has a roll 38 located in groove 39 of a cam C which is secured to the bottom shaft of the loom. This shaft carries a gear 4I meshing with another gear 42 of half its size secured to the top lay driving shaft 45. The bottom shaft is on two pick time and cam C rotates once every second pick of the loom. Cam C has a low surface or point 45, a high surface or point 46, and a concentric dwell il between the surfaces i5 and 6. Y
' The rear end of shaft I5 has secured thereto an arm 55 attached to the upper end of a depending rod 5I the lower end of which is. attached as at 52 to a shuttle position detector holder 53, see Fig. 3. This holder rocks on a stud 54 stationary with respect to the magazine and has a shuttle feeler or position detector 55 secured thereto as 4at 55.
The matter thus far described is of usual construction and operates in usual manner. Normally, all of the bobbin releasers 2 5 will be down and pin 3| will be forward of lever 21. When the shuttle is at the magazine end and is depleted of weft the pin SI will move under lever 27 and at this time rod 23 is moved down by low surface or point 45 of cam C.V The color slide I0 is thereupon rocked in a counter-clockwise direction as viewed in Fig. 2 to engage the top lug 8 ofthe releaser registered therewith and move this releaser upwardly so that its dog 1 will overhang the shelf I5, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2. This upward motion of the releaser occurs while theV shaft I5 remains at rest and the yielding lock comprising arm il, lever I6 and spring 20 will not be moved.
The shuttle is then picked at the opposite side of the loom and at some time in the loom cycle prior t0y return of the shuttle the high surface or point 55 of cam C will lift rod 28 and cause lever 21, moving around pin 3S as a center, to rock the color slide in a clockwise direction, Fig. 2, to engage the lower lug 9 of the previously raised releaser to depress the latter. Upon downward motion of this releaser the overhanging dog 'I will engage the shelf I6 and will rock shaft I5 in a clockwise direction, Fig. 2, thereby lowering rod 5I and causing the shuttle feeler or position detector 55 to move downwardly from its normal idle position to its detecting position shown for instance in full lines in Fig. 8. Down motion of the releaser will rock the corresponding cradle and the lowest bobbin in the associated stack will drop to transfer position inthe magazine under the transferrer arm 55. From this description it will be seen that the magazine is actually set for a replenishing operation by high surface 46 of cam C.
The matter thus far described is characteristic of the standard four-color weft replenishing loom which has been in common use for a great many years. The shaft I5 when rock-ed by the overhanging dog l moves the yielding lock including spring 25 so that this lock moves to the other side of a line joining shaft I5 and pivot I9 and yieldingly holds the shelf I5 and the shuttle feeler 55 in a position setfor transfer. In the past it has been customary to employ some part of the lay L to engage the shuttle feeler 55 to lift the latter to reset the shaft I5 to its normal position as t-he'lay approaches front center on a bobbin changing beat of the loom. This resetting `of shaft I 5 under .prior practice has occurred while the transferrer latch 59 is engaged with the lay carried bunter 5I) and it is for this rea-son that it has not been possible t-o use a positive connection between the shaft I5 and the latch when resetting has occurred at front center.

It will be understoodthat'when a norinal` weft replenishing operation -ocqiirs in multicolor magezines of prior con-struction the' lat-ch has remained engaged with the lay for' an interval of time which has continued after' resetting of shaft I5, and because -of this fact a loose or lost motion connection has'b'een necessary betweenthe shaft and the latch. Arm 1I has a shoe 85 which is held spaced from the cam C by' the stop` screw `3| for the greater part of the rotation thereof, but as the cam rotates in the direction of arrow a, Fig. l, tappet 1t will engage shoe 85 to' lower rod 125 and lift rod 83 at a time in the loom cycle when the dwell d1 of cam C 'is in control of thecolor slide and is holding the latter against angular motion. It is to be understood that shoe 85 is depressed every second pick of the loom at a time before lever I I can rock to change the horizontal position' of the color slide and Aafter the lay has moved rearwardly far' enoiigh from frlont center immediately following' a bobbin changing operation to become disengaged from latch 59. It is at this time that rod 15 descends.
Two means are shown herein for connecting the shuttle fe'eler 55 positively to the latch 59. In the preferred form a"shi=elded flexiblewire is used as indi-cated in Fig. l'. This wire Sis supported `onthe loonl frame by several clips B'I and has' a core 92 which is directly vconnected as at 93 to a part of the latch 59 'forward of its pivotal connection 34 with the transferrer arm 5'8. The latch will remain engaged with the layv for the-remainder of the aforesaid interval during the rst part of the rearward motion of the lay, but eventually the bunter will moveV away from the latch and thereafter tappet 1li will depress" shoe to cause a downward motion of rod 15 the effec'tof which is to cause movement of the shuttle detector and latch from the full line to the dotted line position, Fig. 9, by reason of engagement of the top of' rod 15 with stud 11. The top shaft will therefore be reset at some time after disengagement of bunter 60 from latch 59. As the shuttle feeler returnsv to its normal position the forward end, at the right of Fig. l, of
core 92 will rise to lowerthel latch 59 to normal Fig. 7, to the dotted line position and in doing so will push down on the exible wire core 92, thereby positively `exerting an upward force yon that part of the latch 59 in front of its pivot 94 to lower the latch below the path of the bunter Bil to the dotted line position, Fig. 1, and a transfer will be prevented. By this arrangement the latch 59 is controlled in a manner different from that which has been possible in the past in that it is acted on by a positive force instead of by springs or gravity as formerly. The resetting function, occurring-later in the loom cycle, does not interfere with revocation of a called transfer.
Instead of the flexible wire 99 another form of positive connection may be employed between the shuttle detector and the latch, `this connection being somewhat similar to connections previously used but diiering inthat a positive revoking force can be exertedhy shaft I5 on the latch. In this modified 4form Shown in Fig. 10 an arm Iil extending from the forward end of shaft I5 is connected vto a depending rod IDI the lower end of which is pivoted to the `forward end of latch 59 at theconnection 93, this rod-having positive connection without lost motion with both the shaft I5 and the latch 59.
In the `operation of the' modified form of the invention the magazinewill be reset as already described in connection with the preferred form, but when revocation of a called replenishing operation occurs' upward movement ofthe shuttle feeler fdwill actthrough rod 5I to rock the shaft I5' back to its normal position and effect lifting of the rod It! to exert a positive lifting force on the forward part of the latch 59 to move the latter out of the path of the bunter 6G.
The slot 76 at the upper end of rod 15 permits the shuttle feeler 55 to move down to its shuttle detecting position while rod l5 is up and at a.V
time whichis normal for setting the detector in the ordinary four-color weft replenishing mechanism. When the detector 55 moves to shuttle detecting position the stud 'il moves to the top of the slot, and as rod 'i5 descends it returns the detector to normal position. After tappet 1li passes shoe 85 rod 'l5 risesv to the position shown Vin Fig. 1.A A.This lost motion connection between rod 75 and studv does not prevent prompt movement of the latch 59 by the shuttle feeler 5t in either form of the invention.
The improved resetting and revoking features set forth herein can if desired be used with a pneumatic thread control system including a pneumatic thread remover H25 which is moved downwardly to thread pick-up position when the transferrcr arm 53 descends. The remover remains down after the transferring operation and is not returned to its idle non-pick-up position until the lay has its forward motion next following replenishment. This return of the remover may be as set forth for instance in copending application Serial No. 148,423, led March 8, 1950. The cam tappet it operates in correct time for resetting of the magazine as already described and also for resetting the remover to its non-pick-up position.
When pneumatic thread removers such as that indicated at IE5 have been used on stationary magazines in the past failure of the magazine to be able to effect revocation of transfer by a misplaced shuttle has resulted in ybreakage of the remover when the latter has been moved down against the misplaced shuttle by the transferrer arm, but by use of the positive revoking feature described herein likelihood of this breakage is greatly reduced.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the invention sets forth simple means by which the magazine is reset subsequent to a bobbin transferring operation after the bunter 'St has moved away from the latch 5,9, and because of this fact it is possible to establish a connection between the shuttle detector and the latch such that the latter can be promptly and positively moved out of the path of Ythe lay bunter if a misplaced shuttle engages the shuttle detector. The shuttle position detector can be of the form used heretofore except for the rearwardly extending arm la, and resetting is effected by the cam tappet 'Hl which has a xed relation with respect to the low and high points 45 and 4t, respectively, of cam C. This relation effects resetting of the magazine preferably during the time dwell 41 of the cam is in control of the color slide. When a revocation of bobbin transfer occurs a positive force derived from the shuttle feeler is communicated to the transferrer latch 59- either by the flexible wire QS employed in the preferred form of the invention, or by reason of the rod It! used in the modified form. Itwill be understood that in both the preferred and modified forms the slot 'E5 permits prompt'movement of the latch by detector 55. Yrfhe latch 5S and shuttle detector 55 are parts of a train of positively connected elements which can be moved in unison when a force is appliedrat any point inthe train. In the preferred form core 92 is part of such a train,
8 while in the modied form arm IUI is in the train.
Having thus described the invention it will be seen that changes and modifications of the foregoing specific disclosure may be made Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
What is claimed as new is:
1. In a weft replenishing loom having a lay, a train of positively connected elements all of which move in unison including a setting shaft, a shuttle position detector, anda transferrer latch, the detector normally being in non-detecting Yposition and the latch being normally out of the path of the lay, cam'means turning in a two-pick cycle of the loom, operative connections between the cam and said train moving the latter in one direction on the rst pick of said cycle to place the detector in detecting position and place the latch in the path of the lay preparatory to a -weft replenishing operation, the shuttle if misplaced moving said train in the opposite direction to move the latch out of the path of the lay, and other operative connections between the cam and said train moving the latter in said opposite direction on the other pick of said cycle to reset said train and return the detector and latch to the normal positions thereof.
2. In a weft replenishing loom having a lay, a train of positively connected elements all of which move in unison including a setting shaft, a shuttle position detector, and a transferrer latch, the detector normally being in non-detecting position and the latch being normally out of the path of the lay, cam means turning during loom operation and having two cam` surfaces, means moved by the first of said camk surfaces effective to move said trainin one direction to place the detector in the detecting position thereof and place the latch in the path of the lay preparatory to a weft replenishing operation, and other means thereafter operated by the other surface of the cam toY move said train in the opposite direction and return said detector and latch to the normal positions thereof.
3. In a weft replenishing loom having a lay, a' setting shaft, a shuttle position detector, and a transferrer latch connected together and moving in unison in a train, the detector normally being in non-detecting position and the latch being normally out of the path of the lay, cam means having two cam surfaces, means actuated by one of said surfaces moving said train in one direction to move'the detector to the detecting position thereof and move the latch into the path of the lay, said latch remaining in engagement with the lay for a given interval of a pick of the loom during a normal replenishing operation, and means actuated by the other cam surface subsequent to said interval moving said train in the opposite direction and returning the detector and latch to the normal positions thereof. Y
4. In a loom having a lay and weft replenishing mechanism including a transferrer latch normally out of the path of the lay and a shuttle position detector normally in non-detecting position, a cam having two cam surfaces, means operated by one of the cam surfaces moving the detector from the normal position thereof to the detecting position thereof, positive connections between the detector and latch effective to move the latter into the path of the lay when the detector moves to the detecting position thereof, the detector if moved. by a misplaced shuttlein adirection toward the normal position thereof .effecting `movement of the latch out of theipath ofthe lay by .a force transmitted positively through said `connections, the latch `re- 4mainingin.engagement with the lay `for a given interval of Itime if a replenishing operation occurs, and resetting means operated by the other `carri surface operating at a time subsequent tc said interval to return the shuttle detector to the normalzposition thereof andiexert a force through said positive connections returning the latch to the normalposition thereof.
5. The loom set forth in claim e wherein said resetting means has a lost motion connection with the shuttle Adetector enabling the latter to Abe ,moved toward the normal position thereof by a misplaced shuttle independently of operation of said resetting means.
5. In a weft replenishing loom having a lai, a train of positively connected elements moving in unison and including a shuttle position deteotor normally -in non-detecting position and a transferrer latch normally out of the path of the lay, said train causing the latch to be moved by the detector when the latter moves, cam means rotating in a two pick cycle, means operatively related to said train operated by said cam means moving the train in one direction to move the detector to the detecting position thereof and move the latch into the path of the lay preparatory to a weft replenishing operation of the loom, the latch remaining engaged with the lay for a given interval of time if the replenishing operation occurs, a misplaced shuttle if engaging the detector moving the train in the opposite direction to move the latch out of the path of the lay by a force transmitted positively through said train, and resetting means operated by the cam means subsequent to said interval moving said train in the opposite direction to return the detector and latch to the normal positions thereof.
7. The combination set forth in claim 6 wherein said train includes a flexible shielded wire operatively connected at one end thereof to the shuttle detector and operatively connected at the other end thereof to the latch.
8. The combination set forth in claim 6 wherein said train includes a shaft rockably mounted on the loom, a rod connecting the shaft to the detector and another rod connecting the shaft to the latch.
9. In a weft replenishing mechanism having a lay and a shaft rotating on two pick time, a transferrer latch normally out of the path of the lay but being in engagement with the lay for a given interval of time during weft replenishing operation of a shuttle, a shuttle position detector normally in non-detecting position, means positively connecting the detector and latch and forming with said detector latch -a train all parts of which move in unison, cam means having two cam surfaces secured to said shaft, means operating prior to said interval and actuated by one of said cam surfaces to move said train in one direction to move the detector to detecting position and the latch into the path of the lay, and resetting means lactuated by the other cam surface subsequent to said interval moving said train in the opposite direction to return the detector and latch to the normal positions thereof, the shuttle if misplaced moving the detector when the latter is in lthe detecting position thereof and causing said train to .move in said opposite direclll tion to move the latch out of the path ofthe lay to prevent a replenishing operation.
10. In a weft replenishing 'loom having a lay, a train of positively connected elementsincluding a shuttle position detector normally innondetecting position and a transferrer latch normally out ofthe path of the lay, said detector and latch moving in unison when the train is moved, cam means turningon two-pick time, a leveroperatively connected to said train and moved by said cam means to move the train in one direction to move the detector `to the detecting position thereof and move the latch into the path of the lay preparatory to a weft replenishing operation, the latch remaining engaged with the `lay for a given interval offtime during the replenishing operation, and a second lever operatively connected to said train and moved by saidcam means subsequent to said interval to move the train in the oppositedirection to return `Vthe detector and latch tothe-normal positions thereof.

In a weft replenishing loom operating ina two-pick cycle and having a lay and a bobbin transferrer mechanism normally out of the path of the lay as the latter moves forwardly and having also a shuttle position detector normally in nondetecting position, and wherein the transferrer mechanism moves to transfer position into the path of the lay to be operated by the latter during forward movement thereof and the detector moves to shuttle detecting position in one pick of the cycle preparatory to a replenishing operation, means causing the transferrer mechanism and detector to move positively in unison toward transfer position and back to normal position, the detector if engaged by a misplaced shuttle as the lay advances moving the transferrer mechanism positively out of the path of the lay to prevent a replenishing operation, the transferrer mechanism being engaged with the lay incident to a replenishing operation until the lay reaches a given point during the backward motion thereof after weft replenishment, and means effective during the second pick only of said cycle after the lay has reached said point to return the transferrer mechanism and detector to normal position.
l2. In a weft replenishing loom operating in two-pick cycles and having a lay and a bobbin transferrer mechanism normally out of the path of the lay as the latter moves forwardly and having also a shuttle position detector normally in non-detecting position, and wherein the transferrer mechanism moves to transfer position into the path of the lay to be operated by the latter during forward movement thereof and the detector moves to shuttle detecting position. in one pick of a two-pick cycle preparatory to a replenishing operation, means causing the transferrer mechanism and detector to move positively in unison toward transfer position and back to normal position, the detector if engaged by a misplaced shuttle as the lay advances moving the transferrer mechanism positively out of the path of the lay, the lay being engaged with the transferrer mechanism when a replenishing operation occurs until the lay during the backward motion thereof after weft replenishment reaches a given point, and resetting mechanism having a resetting movement during the second pick only of each two-pick cycle and effective during the second pick of said cycle after the lay has reached said point to return the transferrer mechanism and detector to normal position.
13. In a weft replenishing loom operating in a two-pick cycle and having a, lay and a bobbin transferrer mechanism normally out of the path of the lay as the latter moves forwardly and having also a shuttle position detector normally in non-detecting position, the loom being capable of having a setting operation preparatory to replenishment of a shuttle during the first pick only of a two-pick cycle by movement of the transferrer mechanism from the normal position thereof to transfer position thereof into the path of the lay and by movement of the detector from the normal position thereof to detecting position, positively acting connections between said transferrer mechanism and detector causing the transferrer mechanism to be moved positively out of the path of the lay when the detector is moved away from the detecting position thereof by a misplaced shuttle las the lay moves forwardly, the transferrer mechanism if engaged by the lay during forward movement thereof incident to a replenishing operation remaining engaged with the lay until the latter during the rearward movement thereof after the replenishing operation reaches a given point, and means operating during the second pick only of the two-pick cycle to effect a resetting operation by return of the transferrer mechanism and detector to the normal positions thereof after the .lay has reached said point in said rearward movement thereof, to the end that a resetting operation in the second pick of a two-pick cycle cannot interfere with a setting operation of the loom for a replenishing operation in the first pick of the next two-pick cycle.
