Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH HERSHEK, OF JOLIET, ILLINOlS.
DIE FOR POINTING OR SHARIBENING HARROW-TEETH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 262,294, dated August 8, 1882.
Application filed March 23, 1892.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH HERSHEK, ot Joliet, in the county ot" Will and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and usel'ul Improvements in Dies for Pointing or Sharpening Harrow-Teeth, ot' which the following is a specification.
1n the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents the upper or hammer portion ofthe dies; Fig. 2, the lower or anvil portion. Fig. 3 shows an elevation of the dies in working position with two barrow-teeth in place, having been pointed by operation of the dies. Fig. 4 represents a blank barrow-tooth bei'ore pointing or sharpening; Fig. 5, thesameafter pointing or sharpening. Fig. 6 illustrates a pointed barrow-tooth with tins attached upon each side, which were the result ofthe defective niodeot'sharpening harrow-teeth practiced previous to my invention.
The object of my invention is to point or sharpen edged barrow-teeth rapidly by means of suitable dies, so that no tins of metal shall be left upon them, and so that they shallrbe in a smooth and complete ljnished condition, as illustrated in Fig. 5.
Heretot'ore, owing to the defects in dies for pointing or sharpen ing harrow-teeth, th ey have been left after the work ot' the dies was done upon them with ns attached upon either side, as shown in Fig. 6, which fins had to be afterward removed, and that was an expensive and troublesome operation.
Referring to the letters upon the drawings, A indicates the hammer or upper portion of (No model.)
the dies, which may be operated by steam to strike blows, or slowly by hydraulic or other pressure. 'lhis hammer is provided with one or more tapering concavities, B, suitable to form the tapering portion ofthe point ofa harrow-tooth, as indicated at O in Fig. 5.
D indicates the lower or anvil portion of the dies, provided with one or more inclined V- shape recesses, E, and with the oppositely-inclined passages or coneavities F. Blank harrow-tecth X are to be inserted in the recesses E, as illustrated in Fig. 3, the hammer A being so adjusted that the conca vities B register with the recesses E when the hammer is brought do n upon the anvil,as shown in Fig. 3. The result will beto cleanly point. or sharpen and finish the barrow-teeth, as illustrated in Fig. 5. The tins G will be clipped oli' entirely by the cutting-edges H ot' the anvil, when they may be passed out of the way through the concavities F.
Having thus described my invention, what claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
vThe die A, provided with one or more inclined concavities B, in combination with the die D, provided with one or more inclined V- shaped recesses, E, and with two or more coilcavities, F, and cutting-edges H, substantially as and for the purpose set t'orth.
JOSEPH HERSHEK.
