UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
QUINCY KING, OFCOLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO.
SADDLE-GIRTH.
PECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 262,053, dated August 1, 1882. Application filed May 24, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, QUIN Y KING, of 0010- rado Springs, in the county of El Paso and State of Colorado, have invented a new and Improved Saddle-Girth, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to improvements in saddle-girths; and it consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more fully set forth.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, inwhich similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a saddle and girth, the girth having the elastic spring-section of my improvement; and Fig. 2 is an elevation of a part of the girth and the elastic section, showing a modification of the latter.
A represents the saddle; B, the strap connecting the girth to the ring of the saddle, D, the girth proper, and E the elastic springsection which I apply to the girth for enabling the girth to keep tight after being adjusted by taking up any slack that may occur from the shrin kage of the body of the horse. To make this'elastic connection I bend a piece of wire of suitable size in themiddle to form the head a, to which the strap 13 is connected, then bend it along each wayfrom the head to form the two series of loops bin one plane, and connect and weld, solder, or braze the ends together to form the bar at, to which the part D of the girth is attached. The said elastic section may consist of one series of loops 1); but I prefer to employ the two series, as shown.
In practice a leather or other pad may be attached to the under side of the spring for protecting the horse from the wires.
By the application of the cross-bar e and tonguefto the head of the spring the strap B may be buckled onto the spring, as represented in Fig. 2, if preferred.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination, with a saddle-girth, of an elastic or spring section, E, consisting of two series of wire loops b, head a, and connecting-bar d, substantially as described.
2. The combination of bar 0 and buckletongue f with an elastic or spring section, E, of a saddle-girth, consisting of two series of loops, 1), head a, and connecting-bar d, substantially as described.
QUINCY KING.
