i UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
L00 CHEW FAN, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
SHOE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 261,439, dated July 18, 1882.
Application filed January 30,1882. (NomodeL) 7 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Loo CHEW FAN, of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improvement in Shoes; and I hereby declare the following tobe a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to certain improvements in the construction of shoes; and it consists in the formation of the uppers in a single piece each, their edges meeting in front without overlapping. The tongue extends down inside the butt-seam, and an ornamental tip extends up over the outside, both being stitched in place, so that an easy fit for the foot is made at that point.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my shoe. Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the vamp, showing the joint and'attachment of the tongue.
A A are'the pieces forming the vamp and the quarter of the shoe, all in a single piece. These pieces meet in front, butting together without any overlapping joint, and the tongue B extends down inside the seam to the toe, being stitched all the Way. Upon the outside is an ornamental tip, 0, which extends upward v from the toe to the point where the sides separate for the entrance of the foot. By these two pieces the seam is made strong and tight without overlapping, and it will be easy for 0 the foot, there being no projecting seam to hurt the instep.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 3 5 The improved shoe, consisting of the upper united at the front of the foot, in combination with the tongue extending to the toe end of the upper and stitched beneath and to the abutting portions, and the tip C, stitched over 4.0 the outsideof the said jointand extendingfrom the toe up to the lower end of the front opening, whereby the front seam or joint is covered on one side by the tongue and on the opposite side by the tip, all substantially as set 5 forth.
In witness whereof I hereunto set 'my hand.
