- a core blowing machine employing compressed air comprising in combination a frame structure including a sand chamber having a wide air inlet opening and a narrow sand outlet opening, valve means disposed in said inlet opening for controlling the admission of compressed air into said chamber, valve control means for opening and closing said valve means, and a lining member including a plurality of transverse openings therethrough disposed within said sand chamber spaced apart from the chamber wall and open ended at the side facing the valve means, said valve means including a valve body and a guide member mounted on the side of said valve body facing the said chamber and movable in unison with the valve body, said guide member being shaped and positioned relative to the space between the chamber wall and the lining member so as to direct compressed air into the said space and to provide space for the flow of compressed air into the sand chamber upon opening of said valve means.

- said sandchamber having a substantially frustoconical section positioned above said lining member, the narrow end of said section including said inlet opening, and valve means for controlling the rate of flow of compressed air through said inlet opening, valve control means opening and closing said valve means, said valve means including a valve body' seated on said inlet opening and a guide member secured to the valve body on the side'thereof facing the sand chamber and the lining-member therein, said guide member having a substantial frusto-conical shape and being positioned within said' conical section so as to form 'a secondannular channel therewith, said latter channel being aligned so as to direct compressed air into the annular channel formed by the lining member and the tubular section of the sand chamber upon opening of the valve means, a space being interposed between the adiacent ends of theguide member and the lining member so-asto" provide for a flow of compressed air leaving said second channel into said tubular sectionof the sand chamber upon opening of the valve means.
