APPARATUS FOR CONSTRUCTING CONCRETE FLOORS James Ledbetter, Centralia, Ill.

The invention relates to improved apparatus for facilitating the construction of concrete floors wherein supporting joists are arranged substantially in spaced and parallel relation and comprises forms made of steel or the like and serve to provide a temporary floor for supporting the concrete and which may be readily removed after the floor is formed, but more particularly to means for releasably attaching to the steel or precast concrete supporting elements upon which the temporary floor form may be assembled, and has for its objects the provision of apparatus of this character which will be simple in construction, economical to manufacture and highly efiicient in use.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention relates indirectly to copending applications Ser. No. 678,383 for Building Construction filed June 21, 1946, and Ser. No. 733,029, filed March 7, 1947, for Concrete Floor Plan.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which Fig. 1- is a vertical section of the apparatus as arranged for use and embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a bottom face view of a temporary floor member as arranged for use;
Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary side view latch-arm for the clamping member; and
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary portion of the floor supporting means arranged in a varied position.
The embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawings comprises two similarly shaped I-beams Ill-Ill arranged in spaced and parallel relation to which clamp members I I are attached in operative position for use, it being understood that other clamp members II are attached to each I-beam I0 in suitably spaced arrangement longitudinally thereof. Each clamp member ll comprises a standard l2 of channel iron, having a pair of outwardly extending hinge flanges l3 attached by welding to opposite outer faces adjacent its bottom, best shown in Fig. 1. The standard I2 of the clamp member H is provided at its upper inner corner with a notch 14 adapted to hold a square-tubular pipe or rod 15 tightly against the web [6 of the I-beam [0. The tubular square rods 15 are arranged to extend the full length-of each of the opposed webs [6 supported in the notches l4 at the upper ends of the standards I2 of the clamp members ll.

. 2 I The standard [2 is provided with an inwardly opening notch I! having a curved lower lip Ila which is of a size and shape to fit snugly over the outer portion ofthe bottom flange l8, as
shown. The clamp H is provided with a latch arm [9 of substantially the same contour of the standard I2, being provided at its inner bottom edge with a notch l1 fitting the outer portion of the opposite edge, and-a notch [4 at its upper inner corner serving to hold a square pipe or rod against the I-beam, as shown. The latcharm is is mounted between the hinge-flanges l3 and hingedly connected thereto by means of a bolt or rivet 20, passing through suitably aligned holes 21 as will be readily understood. The latch-arm l9 and the hinge flanges l3 are provided with suitably aligned holes 22 when in closed position, as shown in Fig. 1, and are adapted to then receive a suitable key pin 23 and best shown in Fig. 2.
The above described apparatus is adapted to carry form male and female plates 26 and 21 each having angular reinforcing members 28 welded to the underside thereof in suitably spaced positions, the endmost one having one of its legs 29 protruding sufficiently to engage to form a suitable lap of joint when in use. Each of the form plates is provided with an outwardly and downwardly extending portion 30a 30 adapted to bear against opposed web faces of the I-beams l0 above the square tube l5 as shown in Fig. 1 or if desired, the said flanges 30 can be placed against the outer edges of the square tubes [4 as shown in Fig. 5. The form plates 26 and 21 are provided at their upper edges with mutually engaging tongue 24 and groove 25, respectively, at
- their upper edges when arranged in arched position and engagement as shown in Fig. 1. The female form plate member 21 is provided at its upper edge portion with a narrow flange 32 formed longitudinally thereof and at a slight angle thereto, and an inwardly arranged cooperating flange member 33 spaced apart by a flat bar 34 preferably assembled by welding, the bar 34 forming an abutment for the upper edge of the male member 23.
It is therefore, presented that the apparatus as arranged and shown is a simple and effective means for erecting a temporary floor form where I-beams are the support desired.
While I have illustrated and described the details of a practical embodiment of my invention, these may be modified, altered, rearranged, and otherwise changed without departing from the pronounced innovations herein; I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details set forth but seek to avail myself of such variations and modifications as may fall within the spirit and scope of the following claims.
I claim:
1. A floor forming apparatus for supporting a floor of cementitious material above and between a pair of I-beams arranged in spaced and parallel relation; said apparatus comprising a plurality of upwardly extending independently arranged clamps evenly distributed on and carried by the lower flange portions of each I-bcam; each of said clamps comprises a pair of vertical standards in spaced relation and connected by a hinge flange adjacent their bottom in spaced and parallel position, one on each side of the web of its respective I-beam and flange; oppositely disposed notches adjacent the inner lower end of each standard of each clamp supported on its respective I-beam flange; an inwardly and upwardly open notch at the upper end of each of said standards; a longitudinally arranged rod mounted against each side of each web in said inwardly and upwardly open notch of said standards arranged and adapted to form bottom end supports for tongue and groove: form plates.
2. The construction specified in claim 1 in which the said clamps comprise a pair of vertical standards having one standard rigidly connected to said hinge flange and the other standard is releasably hinged to said hinge flange.
3. In a floor forming apparatus for installing an inverted V-shape arch between a pair of I- beams arranged in spaced and parallel relation comprising a plurality of clamp means arranged and adapted to support a pair of rods longitudinally against opposite faces of the web portion of each of said pair of I-beams; and a pair of co-operating form plates each of a width greater than one half of the distance between said web faces; an angular flange on one edge of one of said pair of form plates; and an angular attached flange carried. by the other co-operating form plate to form a groove to engage said first named angular flange.
