This invention relates to a telephone dial lock. Another object of this invention is to provide a device of this kind which in one form thereof is provided with a key lock so that the dial cannot be properly operated until a key is inserted and the device subsequently released by insertion of a com.

A further object of this invention is to provide a lock of this kind which can be formed out of plastic or other suitable material, the device being simple in construction so that it can be manufactured at small cost and so that it will withstand rough handling.

With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawing and specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral l designates generally a dial telephone wheel which is provided with a plurality of finger openings I I. In order to provide a means whereby in the use of the telephone the user will be reminded of the necessity of depositing a nickel for the use of the telephone, I have provided a removable lock which comprises ahousing l2.

The housing I2 is formed with acoin slot l3 Within which a coin I4 is adapted to loosely engage. A pivoted coin operated lever la is carried by the housing In in a channel 20a and the lever [8a is formed at its lower end with a locking bolt Ila.

The housing l2a also includes a coin slot l3a which communicates with the opening 20a and when it is desired to lock the housing on the dial wheel so that the housing cannot be removed even by insertion of a coin, I have provided a key operated locking bolt 24 which is adapted when in locked position to be moved inwardly to the dotted line position shown in Figure 4 in order that the lever [8a will be held against rocking to a released position by insertion of the coin.

With the structure shown in Figure 4, the stud l5a may be inserted in a selected one of the openings II in a dial wheel l0 and preferably in the first of such openings. In the-event the telephone is to be locked against use by other than authorized persons, the device will be left in its locked position on the dial wheel. The device shown in Figure 4 may be released by inserting the key in the lock and moving the bolt 24 outwardly to the full line released position. At this time a coin may be inserted inthe coin slot [3a so that the housing l2a may be removed from the dial wheel. Any type of cylinder lock of conventional construction may be used for holding the lever l8a against rocking.

This device has been primarily designed as a. reminder to persons that itis proper to deposit a coin for use of the telephone. This device may be made out of plastic or other suitable material and as it embodies only one moving part, the device will not readily get out of order and can be manufactured at a relatively small cost.

A look adapted to be removably mounted in the apertured wheel of a dial telephone comprising a housing having a coin slot, a headed stud fixedly carried by said housing and engageable in .a selected wheel opening, a notched locking bolt rockablycarried by said housing and cooperating withsaid stud in looking said housing to said wheel with said stud and bolt engaging in a selected opening of saidwheel, said bolt including a cam shaped part projecti Partly into said coin slot for rocking of said bolt to released position by an inserted coin, anda key actuated lock bolt carried by said housing engageable with said projecting part for locking the latter against rocking by an inserted coin.

3. A look adapted to be removably mounted in the apertured wheel of a dial telephone, comprising a housing having a coin slot-and a passage only a portion of the coin.

4 at one end of said slot communicating with the latter, a headed stud projecting from the bottom. of said housing and formed with a slot aligning with said passage, said stud being engageable in. a selected wheel opening, and a spring pressed notched locking bolt disposed in said passage and pivoted to said housing, the notched part of said bolt loosely engaging in the slot of said stud and said bolt including a cam shaped part confronting said first named slot'engageable by a coin inserted in the latter whereby the inserted coin will rock said bolt to released position in the slot of said bolt, said slot being adapted t receive ALBERT P.
