' rien Springs, in the county of Berrien and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trace-Supporters; and I do hereby declare'the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawings, which form part of this specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in trace-supporters; and it consists in a slide whichis applied to the trace, and which can be adjusted freely back and forth upon it and held in any desired position, and which is provided with a ring, hook, or any other similar device for supporting the trace, as will be more fully described hereinafter.

The object of my invention is to provide a support for traces which can be adjusted back and forth and secured in any desired positionv upon the trace, and which can be hooked or attached to any suitable part of the harness, so as to keep the traces up from the ground. Figure 1 is a vertical section of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.

A represents an ordinary trace, which is provided with a cockeye, B, for catching over the end of the whiffletree, in the usual manner. Placed upon this trace is the slide 0, of any suitable shape, size, or construction, down through the top of which passes the set-screw E.

In order to prevent the set-screw from in- 3 5 juring the edge of the trace, where it comes in contact with it, a plate, F, is placed inside of the frame and upon the top of the trace, so as to have the lower end of the screw bear directly upon it. This plate has its ends made enough wider than the opening through the frame to prevent it from becoming displaced while the frame is being moved back and forth upon the trace.

I do not limit myself to a screw, as here shown, for asprin g, catch, hook, or other suitable device may be used for holding the frame in any position into which it may be adjusted.

In order to enable this ring or loop to turn the screw, a suitable notch, N, iscnt in its lower edge, which can be made to catch down over the top of the handle which is formed on the screw when the ring or loop is pushed downward. When the ring or loop, however, is raised up above the handle, it will revolve freely upon the screw without in any way affecting it. As the ring or loop turns freely upon the upper part of the screw, it is always ready to be caught upon and fastened to any hook'or other device attached to the harness for that purpose, though the supporter will be generally fastened to a supporting-strap.

By means of my attachment the supporter can be moved back and forth upon the trace, soas to support it in any desired position and prevent all necessity of having to twist them into a loop or tie them in a knot to keep them from the ground. a

Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. In a trace-supporter, the combination of the trace, a metallic slide applied thereto, a fastening device for holding the slide in place, and a supporting-strap, substantially as shown.
