2 Claims.

This invention relates to a holder which is capable of being self-supporting and is particularly adapted to hold a hose while mounted in self-supporting connection on a wash basin, washing machine or the like.

An object of the invention is to provide a device that is capable of holding a work therein and is capable at the same time of being selfsupporting whilein mounted or attached position.

Another object of the-invention is to provide a device that is capable of accommodatin several sizes of hose. V

A further object of the invention is to provide a device that will permit the user thereof freedom of movement for his hands while it is in use.

A still further object of the invention is to reduce the possibility of scalding while washing.

And a still further object of the invention is to provide a device that is adaptable for various types of washing machines.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a support of the aforementioned hose which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly eflicient and reliable in use, compact, light in weight, and which may be manufactured at low cost.

More of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of references designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:

Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the device showing it as being retained on one type of washing machine;

Figure 2 is a side elevational view of the device showing it as being retained on another type of washing machine; and

Figure 3 is a perspective View of the invention.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, the device is indicated generally at l and is shown as holding a hose 12 in Figures 1 and 2. The hose holder is shown in a position of attachment to one type of washing machine in Figure 1 at l4 and is of particular application to those of the Maytag type. The attachment of holder III is shown in Figure 2 as being applied on a conventional tin rinse tub IE or as applied to the Thor type of Washing machine.

Referring to Figure 3, hose holder It) consists of two adjacent bent wires indicated generally at I8 and 20. Wires [8 and 20 are secured together at 22 in any suitable manner such as by welding, enclosing sleeves, or the like. Referring to the construction ofwire l8, it is'readily apparent that wire 18 is bent in half and is then twisted to form a main body member 24 (see Figures 1 and 2), a laterally extending hose engaging double member 26 and a depending, rounded U-shaped member or clip, 28. Hose engaging member 26 includes a horizontal arm section 30 bent at right angles to main body 24 anda laterally extending leg 32 bent at the free extremity thereof to a semi-circular flare 34 or jaw, for gripping a hose therein. It is to be noted that the complementary free member 26 of bent wire 18 is similar in detail to the construction just described so that complementary. flare 36 is oppositely disposed to flare 34 to hold hose l2 therebetween. Further, it is to be noted that legs 33 of member 26 are bent at a slight inclination to their respective planes, for a purpose soon to be described. Member 28 depends from main body 24 and is bent at right angles thereto to form parallel legs 49 and 42. Leg 40 is bent back to form circular U-shaped section 44 to depend beneath and in spaced parallel relation to leg 42 to provide clip means for attachment to a washing machine or the like.

The second wire hose holder 20, is bent in half in a manner similar to wire 18 and includes main body portion 46 (see Figures 1 and 2), lateral double member 48 and parallel clip member 50. Member 48 is similar in construction to member 2S and includes horizontal arms 52, legs 54, 56,

and flares 58, 60. Since the construction thereof is similar to that of member 26 further explanation will not be necessary. Member 50 depends from main body 46 and is of angular, U-shaped construction. Clip 50 includes parallel legs 62, 64 horizontally disposed and integral with body 46. Leg 62 is bent into vertical flanges 66, 68 and includes a transverse leg 10 which integrally connects a similarly constructed vertical flange T2, '14 extending from a second transverse leg 16 formed from one end of horizontal portion 64. As is readily apparent from the drawings, transverse legs Ill and 16 are in spaced relation to enable the device to be positioned upon an edge of a washing machine.

In order to insure a secure grasp of a hose member [2, a transverse bar 18 is turned inwardly at the edges thereof, as shown at in loosely gripping engagement with legs 32, 38, 54, and 56 and is secured against displacement by riveting 82, or the like. ber '50 is then put into place as is shown in the figure. It is thus readily apparent that the device of the invention is adjustable for use with any type of washing machine or the like and enables the operator thereof freedom of movement in pursuing other duties. Wherever desirable, clips 28 and 50 may be enclosed in a rubber tubing or similar protective sheathing in order'to prevent marring of the enamel or other surface-Where they are attached. While member 28 has been shown as of circular construction, it is obvious that the shape thereof may vary to include the construction of member 50 and vice versa.

Although the above is a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that it is not desired to limit the application of the invention thereto, and any changes may be made in the material and in the structure and arrangement of parts, within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed as the invention is:

1. A holder comprising a pair of adjacent main body members, a pair of laterally extending and upwardly projecting arms secured to said main body members, and support engaging means depending from said main body members, said depending means including an upwardly extending first clip as well as a laterally extending second clip, said clips being disposed perpendicular to each other.

2. A hose holder comprising a pair of U-shaped members, the bights thereof being secured together, lateral hose engaging arms extending from a leg of each of said U-shaped members, a lateral'clip extending from the other leg of one of the said U-shaped members, a parallel clip extending from the other leg of the second U- member, and means slidably received on said arms for urging the same into clamping engagement.
