Description
.moaeli) H. W. MOULTON.
CORSET GLASP. V 4
No. 257,969; Patented May16, 1882.
WITNESSES: INVENTUR ATTORNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY W. MOULTON, OF JACKSON, MICHIGAN.
CORSET-CLASP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 257,969, dated May 16, 1882.
Application filed January 11 1882.
To all whom it nfrty concern Be it known that I, HENRY W. MOULTON,
V of Jackson, in the county of Jackson and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Corset-Clasps; and Idohereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to theaccompanyingdrawings, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of this invention relates to new and useful improvements in corset-clasps; and the invention consists inthepeculiarconstruction and combination of parts, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved shield ready for attachment to a corset. Fig. 2 is a front view of a section of a corset provided with my shield, and Fig. 3 isa crosssection on the line a: a: in Fig. 2, showing the manner of securing the shield.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, A represents one of the busks in the front of a corset, inclosed in a. pocket, as usual, with the loop a. riveted to such busk, with the loop portion projecting beyond the edge through the fabric of the pocket.
B represents the fellow bush in a pocket up on the other adjoining portion of the front of thecorset, and this busk is provided with a stud, b, which in operation engages with the loop upon the opposite busk, the stud projecting through the front of the pocket, the parts tModel.)
described being of the usual construction. As thus constructed, the friction caused by locking the parts together upon the exposed part of the pocket which covers the busk B soon wears out the fabric. To obviate this I employ a shield, 0, stamped or cut out of thin sheet metal and provided with fastening-lips, which is clasped around the front and rear edge of the pocket and inclosed busk, and with a hole which allows such shield to pass over the stud, thus interposiug at very slight cost such metal plate for the purpose of preventing wear of the fabric.
What I claim as my invention is--- 1. As an improved article of manufacture, the metal shield 0, provided with fasteninglips, and having an aperture larger than the head of the fastening-stud of a corset-husk, adapted to be applied to acorset over the fabric after the fastening-stud attached to the bush has been secured in place, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
l. The combination, with the husk B and the stud b thereof, of the shield 0, made entirely separate from the bu h and stud, and secured to the corset over the fabric and stud atterthe busk and stud have first been secured within said corset fabric, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
HENRY W.
