1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to new and useful 1mprovements in atomizers and more particularly in perfume atomizers. An object of this invention is to provide a novel atomizer which will operate efficiently and which is of simple construction.
Another object is to provide an atomizer with the necessary device for refilling without using an additional accessory.
Another object is to provide an atomizer excluding any use of lubricating oil, the perfume itself serving as lubricant.
Another object is to provide an atomizer which continues to function until the last drop of perfume or other liquid is used.
Other and further objects and advantages will be apparent from a reading of the detailed description hereinafter set forth.
The invention consists in the improved construction and combination of parts, to be more fully described hereinafter and the novelty of which will be particularly pointed out and distinctly claimed.
In the accompanying drawing to be taken as a part of this specification there is illustrated one example of embodiment of the invention in which drawing:
Figure 1 is a bottom plan of view of an atomizer embodying the invention;
Figure 2 is a view in vertical section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, and
Figure 3 is a view in elevation, presented in preferred practically and approximately natural size, the Figures 1 and 2 being done to enlarged scale for a clearer presentation.
Referring to the drawing by characters of reference, the numeral I l designates the body of the atomizer, of metal or other material, being the hydraulic cylinder, container for liquid and air, and having along the wall, inside or outside of the wall channel 12 through which the perfume or other liquid is conveyed toward the nozzle IS. The lower part of the body H, the part which normally contains the liquid is connected with the lower end of the vertical channel l2.
When the plunger I 4 is pressed into body II the air contained in upper part of the body flows through the nozzle toward the atmosphere.
Inside of cylinder-body some pressure is formed. This pressure is equally distributed on the inside surface of the body and the liquid. The pres sure on the liquid in the channel l2 will be the same on the lower end. On the upper end, because of the movement and speed of the flowing air, the pressure is lower and this difference represents the force lifting the liquid and mixing the small drops with the air and forming a spray outside the nozzle.
The spring l5 moves the plunger Hi into initial position. During this movement of the plunger into initial position the air enters through the nozzle into cylinder body and the atomizer is loaded for the eventual next stroke of the plunger.
The nozzle l3 may be inserted or represented by a hole in the cylinder wall, which hole has an appropriate shape.
The lower end of the channel I2 is either plugged or closed by the gasket under the screw I6. This screw is removed in order to refill the container. Since the lower part of the container has a shape of a sort of a funnel, no additional device for refilling of this atomizer is required.
An outer cap I1 is used for protecting the plunger from accidental functioning and for giving to the device an attractive aspect.
The packing [8 provides the necessary tightness and prevents leakage during the refilling.
It will be apparent from the foregoing description that there is provided a new atomizer of simple construction and eificient operation and which does not require any lubrication in its air cylinder, since the liquid atomized takes care of this function.
While the form of the device herein shown and described is very well adapted to fulfill the objects primarily stated, it is to be understood that it is not intended to confine the invention to the one form or embodiment herein disclosed, for it is susceptible of embodiment in various forms within the scope of the claim which follows.
What is claimed as new and is desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States'is:
In an atomizer, a tubular casing having a central longitudinal passage formed therein, closure means for the lower end of said passage, a piston in said passage having a piston rod extending through the upper end of said passage, a knob detachably secured on the outer end of said rod, packing means in said upper end engaging said rod, spring means urging said piston toward said upper end, a chamber formed in said casing, adjacent to said closure means and communicating with said passage, a radial insert set into the wall of said casing intermediate the ends thereof, a frustro-conical passage formed in said insert with its base communicating with said passage, a sec-- ond longitudinal passage formed in said casing parallel to and spaced apart from said first longitudinal passage and communicating with both said chamber and said frustro-conical passage;
said casing having a portion, from its upper end down to a point below said insert, of reduced diameter and terminating on a shoulder; and a closure cap enclosing said knob, said portion of reduced diameter and said insert, and abutting said shoulder.
