' 12 The present invention relatesa garment worn by ababy and normally" called a diaper. The present invention contemplates a* diaper so" constructed and arranged" that it may be arranged on the body ofthe baby without ti'ie use: of; fastening means such as safety ins, buttons, snap fasteners and the like.
The present; invention: further contemplates the provision of a diaper in which the fastening means forms an integral part of the diaper.
The present invention further contemplates the provision of a diaper which may easily and readily be arranged on the body of the baby without relatively difficult manipulation.
The present invention still further contemplates the provision of a diaper that can be cominexpensively, economically and readily manufactured.
These, other and further objects and advantages of the present invention will be clear from the following description and the drawing appended thereto, in which Fig. 1 is a plan view of the blank of material which may be folded to form the diaper of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a front view of a diaper embodying my invention partially folded and showing the strap of the fastening means in an unfastened condition.
Fig. 3 is a similar front View showing the strap inserted through one of the corresponding strap receiving openings.
Fig. 4 is a front view showing my diaper arranged on the torso of a baby with the strap in final fastening position.
Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawing and more particularlyto Fig. 1, my diaper is formed by folding in the manner which I shall describe the somewhat preferably rectangular blank 10.
The blank is folded along the line l2 to form the two ply diaper comprising the outer section l4 and the inner section I6 which lies against it.
At the upper corners, as viewed in Fig. 1, of the outer section I4, I form the strap receiving openings [8 and 20.
At the lower left hand corner of the outer section I4, as viewed in Fig. 1, a third strap receiving opening 22 is provided.
In order to strengthen the material around the openings l8 and 20, the outer section I4 at the corresponding corners is cut to form the reinforcing panels 24 and 26, which are folded over onto the outer section and sewed thereto.
In order to form a similar reinforcing panel,
the upper inner corner of the i'nnensectibn iii, the material is cut away and folded over against theouten section F4 antlsewed th'eret'o to form a reinforcing panel 23.
The upperright' hand' corner er of the inner section 1'6; a-s= viewed in Fi-"g; is cut away so that it with the cut away corner 32, will clear the reinforced; openings I8 and 20 when the inner sectiorr- Hi= is folded over against theiouter section I4 on the line l2.
The lower edge of the inner section [6, as viewed in Fig. l, is longitudinally cut to form the fastening strap 34, the outer end of which is folded over and sewed thereto to form the closed pocket in which is arranged the stiffening insert 36, preferably formed from rubber (Fig. 5).
On the strap 34, along the part corresponding to the inner face, that is that surface facing the viewer Fig. l, I secure the strap loops 38, through which, as will be described, the strap is inserted when the diaper is fastened on the torso of a baby.
Upon folding the blank along the line I2, it will assume the position illustrated in Fig. 2, with the lower portion, as ,viewed in Fig. 1, forming the front of the diaper and the upper portion, the back of the diaper.
After the blank is thus folded on the line [2 it is again folded on the line 40 to assume the position illustrated in Fig. 2 before the end 42 of the strap 34 in which the insert 36 is received, is inserted through the opening 20. When the strap 34 is inserted through the opening 20, my diaper will assume the form illustrated in Fig. 3, whereupon it may be arranged on the baby, as illustrated in Fig. 4, the feet of the baby positioned through the open sides of the diaper with the body against the inner section.
After the diaper is thus arranged on the child, the end 42 of the strap is inserted through the opening 22 and the opening la in the upper, outer section.
The strap loops 38 lie in front of the baby and the strap 34 is folded so that the end 42 is positioned at the front.
To fasten the diaper on the child, the end 42 is inserted through a loop 38, the end being some- What larger than the loop so that the strap may be held in position.
It will be seen that the diaper proposed by me may be made from a single piece of material properly cut and sewn.
' It will further be recognized that such diaper will have a double thickness at the front and in the back but which is not cumbersome, easily manipulated and relatively inexpensive to produce and one that will not require separate fastening means such as diaper pins or buttons and the like.
While I have shown, in some detail, a specific embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that I do not intend to be limited thereto but desire to claim my invention as broadly as the appended claims and the prior art will permit.
I claim: 1. A diaper comprising a sheet of material, said sheet foldable along an intermediate line between two sides from the upper edge to the lower edge, to form an outer section and an inner section against the outer section, said outer section at the upper edge having at each side of the outer section a strap receivin opening, said inner section at the upper edge being cut away to clear each 4 upper and the lower edges to form a diaper havin a back and a front with the openings along one side being aligned and the opening adjacent the intermediate line being aligned with the strap, said strap inserted in said last mentioned opening through the openings in said one side and through a loop to fasten the diaper in closed position.
2. The diaper of claim 1, said first and second sections cut adjacent an opening to form a pocket.
4. A diaper comprising an outer section and an inner section folded upon the outer section, said inner section at the lower edge thereof being cut to form a strap extending from the outer section and being free at the other end, loops on said strap, said outer section at the upper edge thereof having strap receiving openings at each sideof the diaper, said outer section at the lower edge thereof at one side of the diaper opposite the strap having an opening and a stiifening insert at the free end of the strap.
