Description
To all whom it may concern:

' JACOB S. VANDENBERGH, OF OANANDAIGUA, NEW YORK.
COMPOUND FOR DESTROYING CARPET BUGS AND WORM S.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 256,414, dated April 11, 1882.
Application filed September 10, 1881. (No specimens.)
Be it known that I, J ACOB SVANDENBERGH, of Oanandaigua, in the county of Ontario and State of New'York, have invented a new and Improved Compound for Destroying Carpet Bugs and Worms, of which the following is a specification.
My composition consists of the following ingredients combined in the proportions stated: tobacco extract, six ounces;'p0tash mixture, one ounce; spirits of turpentine, one ounce.
First. To make the tobacco extract, one and a half pound of tobacco is boiled in six quarts of water for about one hour, upon which the liquor is strained. One quart of alcohol is then poured on the tobacco, and is then mixed with the liquid previously drawn oft, and then strained; This mixture of watery extract of tobacco and the alcoholic extract forms the above-mentioned extract of tobacco.
Second. To make the potash mixture, sixteen ounces of potassium oxide, one ounce of muriate of ammonia, and one ounce of salts of tartar are dissolved in one gallon of soft water and allowed to stand overnight.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The herein-described composition of matter to be used to destroy carpet bugs and worms, consisting of extract of tobacco, potassium oxide, muriate of ammonia, salts of tartar, and turpentine, in the proportions stated.
