This invention relates to new and useful improvements in toys and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a rocker for relatively young and small children and so designed as to permit-the same to be used in a safe and convenient manner without the child falling therefrom or overtipping the same.

Another important object of the present invention is to provide a rocking toy including a pair of rearwardly converging rockers having outwardly projecting forward and rear stops that will limit the rocking movement of the rockers in both directions to prevent accidental overtipping of the toy.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a rocking toy including a back rest and a protective band adapted to embrace a childs waist in order to support the child and prevent accidental movement of the child with respect to the rocker so that the proper balance of the toy may be maintained.

A still further aim of the present invention is to provide a rocking toy that is simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use, neat and attractive in appearance, small and compact in structure, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the present invention;

Figure 2 is a front elevational view of Figure 1;

Figure 3 is a top plan view of Figure 1; and,

Figure 4 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 4-4 of Figure 1.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral Ill represents the present rocking toy generally, including a pair'of elongated rockers or side members [2 having subtially flat and straight upper edges l4 and arcuate lower, bearing, edges I6.

Forward and rear stops l8 and 2!), preferably integrally formed with the rockers I2, project outwardly from the edges l6 and will limit the rocking movement of the rockers in both directions.

Suitably fixed to the upper edges 14 of the 1 Claim. (Cl. 155--69) rockers l2 and intermediate the ends thereof, is a platform or foot rest 22. The platform is seicured to the rockers in such a manner as to retain the rockers in a rearwardly converging position or with the rear portions of the rockers closer together than the forward portions thereof. Such a construction will cause the entire toy In to move in one direction as the same is rocked.

A longitudinally extending vertical wall 24 rises from the platform 22, rearwardly of the centers of the rockers l2, and is braced by a pair of laterally extending vertical side walls 26 that are suitably secured to the platform adjacent the rear end thereof.

Fixed to the upper edges of the walls 24 and 26, is a seat section 28 having a forwardly extending portion 30 that includes concaved side edges 32. This portion 30 is disposed above the forward end of the platform 22 and forwardly of the centers of the rockers l2.

The lower edge of an arcuate, perforated back rest 34 is secured to the outer periphery of the seat section 28 and the upper edges of the back rest 34 are suitably secured to the inner surface of a rigid waist band or ring 38. The band 38 is provided with a forward extension 40 that is spaced above the projection 30, and a supporting post 42 is suitably fixed between the extension 40 and the projection 30.

It should be noted, that the vertical side edges of the back rest 34 are also turned outwardly to eliminate any harmful projections or sharp edges being present which would scratch or tear the clothing or skin of a child using the present toy.

An upright 44 rises from the post 42 and supports a block 45 having a pair of outwardly projecting hand grips 46.

In practical use of the present invention, a child is placed on the seat section 28 with his legs disposed on either side of the supporting post 42, and in such a position a child's feet are supported on the forward portion of the platform 22. As the child actuates the rocker the same will tend to move forwardly with the stops I8 and 20 limiting the rocking movement of the toy in both directions and thereby preventing overtipping of the toy.

In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.

It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a said rockers, the rockers being inclined relative to each other, a longitudinally extending vertical wall rising from said platform, a pair of vertical walls also rising from said -,platfiorm.and fixed to and projecting laterally from said vertical wall, a seat board fixed on all-ofsaid ver tical walls and including a forwardly extending portion and a curved edge, an arcuate back rest having a lower edge surrounding and secured 2 rigid body band embracing the back restankf'haviingt an inner curved :edge secured to-the upper edge of said backprest, -said'body bandiincluding alforwardly projecting portion overlying the '25 forwardly projecting portion of said seat board, a supporting post mounted on and rising from the forwardly projecting portion of said seat board, the forwardly projecting portion of said body band overlying said post and being secured to said post, an upright rising from the supporting post, a block mounted on said upright and overlying the forwardly projecting portion of said body band, and.,.hand gripping means "carried by said-"iblock.
