TOBACCO-BOOKING TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 255,540, dated March 28, 1882.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES SEEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Booking or Padding Table for Leaf-Tobacco, of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates toimprovements in machines for booking or padding leaf-tobacco.
The object of my invention is to furnish a simple and inexpensive machinethat will readilyperform the holding and bookingoftobaceo.
Figure 1 is a vertical section of the front of booking-table with arms closed. Fig. 2 is a view of the side, with treadle better shown; and Fig. 3 is the same as Fig. 1 with arms extended.

At the connection between the arms 0 c and the treadle g the arms a 0 are hingedto a bar,3, which connects them through rod 2, which is connected by hinge to lever h, and is kept in place between treadle g and rod 1 by-a fork. Lever h is fastened to a cross-piece in the rear by a spiral spring-hinge, e, to assist downward movement, and connects with treadle g by hinging to rod 1. y
The leaf-tobacco, afterliavin g been stripped, is spread on cushion a. Then the holding-pads b b, by the action of the arms 0 c and combination-treadle, descend upon cushion a and hold the leaf. The movement of the holdingpads b I) must be so that they do not slide on cushion a, and I gain this movement by having the movable pads 12 b hinged to movable and curved arms 0 o and these attached to trcadle g, as described.
I am aware that prior to my invention booking-tables have been made with cushions.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of a booking-table for leaftobacco with movable holding-pads b b, attached to arms 0 c, and these connecting with atreadle, g, all substantially as set forth.
