Description
May 22, 1951 R. L. COURTADE ICING DEVICE Filed Oct. 18, 1948 I wean-on RALPH L. Coua'rAbE Awoauevs Patented May 22, 1951 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ICING DEVICE.
Ralph L. Courtade, Traverse City, Mich.
Application October 18, 1948, Serial No. 55,035
The present invention relates to icing devices and more particularly to a device for icing or chilling cased bottled beverages.
The primary objects of the instant invention are to provide a device of the general character above indicated which is adapted to be seated on the top of an open beverage case or carton and which is provided with troughs within which cracked or crushed ice may be placed and within which the ice is retained for icing or chilling the bottles of beverage within such case or carton; to provide such a device which is highly eflicient in use, particularly in instances wherein such a case or carton is being transported as for example on a picnic; to provide such a device which is simple yet rugged and sturdy in construction; and, to provide such a device which is reasonably economical in manufacture.
An illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective View of beverage case or carton whose top is shown in its opened position and on top of whose bottled beverages the icing or chilling device is detachably seated;
Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional View thereof on line 2-2 of Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a sectional view on line 33 of Figure 2.
Referring then to the drawing wherein like parts of the beverage case or carton and the icing or chilling device of the instant invention are designated by the same numerals in the several views, a beverage case or carton III for beer or the like having handle grip openings H on its opposite ends is here shown with its split cover 12 in its opened position.
The icing or chilling device of the present invention is generally rectangular in shape and of a size conforming to the inside size of the opened beverage case or carton.
The device per se is preferably of metal such as aluminum and is provided with end walls I3 between which are a plurality of convolutions, the opposite outer lengths of each outer convolution being provided with a lip length I4, each lip length here shown as bein adapted to be seated upon the heads of the outer row of bottles l5 within the beverage case or carton H], as best indicated in Figure 2.
The opposite angularly depending walls I6 form troughs ll adapted to hold and retain cracked or crushed ice, not shown, the opposite sides of each wall It lying adjacent the necks of the bottles I5, again as best shown in Figure 2.
Thus in instances wherein it is desired to transport a case or carton of bottled beverages and retain the bottles in an iced or chilled condition, the top of the case or carton is opened and 3 Claims. (01. 6234) the icing device is seated within the opened top as best shown in Figure 1 after which cracked or crushed ice is poured into the troughs I! and the split cover 12 is closed.
It will thus be seen that the icing device is highly efiicient in its intended use, is simple yet rugged and sturdy in construction and is reasonably economical in manufacture, and while but one specific embodiment of the invention has been herein shown and described, it will be understood that certain details of the construction shown may be altered or omitted without departing from the spirit of the invention as the same is defined in the following claims.
I claim:
1. An icing device adapted to be detachably seated within the opened cover of a beverage case having side and end walls and adapted for disposition within the walls of the case, said device having a plurality of parallel unbroken convolutions disposed between the end walls of the case whose several troughs are adapted to retain a cooling medium, the opposite walls of said troughs being adapted for disposition adjacent the necks of the bottles within the case.
2. An icing device adapted to be detachably seated within the opened cover of a beverage case having side and end walls and adapted for disposition within the walls of the case, said device having a plurality of parallel unbroken convolutions disposed between the end walls of the case whose several. troughs are adapted to retain a cooling medium, the opposite walls of said troughs being adapted for disposition adjacent the necks of the bottles within the case and the opposite outer length of each convolution having a lip length.
3. An icing device adapted to be detachably seated within the opened cover of a beverage case, said device having a parallel unbroken convolution forming a trough disposed between a pair of parallel rows of bottles within the case adapted to retain a cooling medium.
