POCKET-HANGER FOR HATS AND COATS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 253,737, dated February 14, 1882.

Application filed July 22, 1881. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, THOMAS ll/IODONALD, of

Austin, in the county of Travis and State of adapted to close into the body or stock.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is an elevation of my invention with the hooks closed. Fig. 2 is a side elevation with the hooks open ready for use, and Fig. 3 is an edge view with the hooks open.

, Similar letters of reference indicate corrc the hat or coat or cloak, shawl, or other article placed upon the other hook will cause it to be. embedded in the wall sufficiently to support the article.

In case the device should not be intended for engagement with the wall or other perpendicular object or support, but only fOl'SllSPGlltling the garment from some object like an opera-chair or church-pew, neither of the hooks need be very sharp, but only bent so as to hold the garment and catch over and upon the support.

By means of this device the annoyance of holding the hat or placing it on the floor, or wearing or sitting upon the overcoat, or providing and wearing garments which cannot be soiled beyond recovery by such treatment, is wholly overcome.

The device when folded is small and compact and may be carried in the vest-pocket.

Having thus described my invention, [claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent Asa new a ticle of manufacture, a hat-holder consisting of the two parallel plates A, connected at each end by a rivet, and the two hooks B .B, pivoted on said rivets and turned in opposite directions, as shown and described.
