1 Claim. (GI. 2-2324) This invention relates to underwear and more particularly to ladies underwear known als panties, it being one object of the invention to provide underwear of this type which is of scant dimensions and fits snugly about a person's body and is formed along its sides with leg openings of such size that margins of the leg openingg fit closely about upper portions of the legs.
Another object of the invention is to provide underwear having front and rear sections Connected at their lower ends by a crotch portion and having upper ends of their opposite side edges connected in order to form leg openings end also form a. weist band, the leg openings anti the upper edges of the freut and rear sections being bordered by strips of elastic fabric so that while the garment fits snugly about a persons legs end waist lt may be stretched when put on and also in order to adjust lt to provide a comfortable fit.
Another object of the invention is to provide a. garment which has a front section tapered downwardly to a narrow crotch portion and a rear section which is of such shape and dimensions that it will cover the buttocks and. fit snugly about the same with the lower end portion of the rear section extending forwardl and merging into the crotch portion of the garment.
Another object of the invention is to provide unclerwear of this character wherein the counected corners cf the front and rear sections a.re
reinforced by sheets of elastic fabric which are thicker than the elastic fabric from which the weist band and bindings for the leg openings are formed and will serve very efiectively to prevent ripping of seams connecting th front end rear sections above the leg openings and also 130 assist in causing the garment to fit snugly about a person wearing the garment.
Another object of the invention is to provide a, garment of this character which is provided with horizontally extending elastlc strips spaced downwardly from upper ends of the leg openings and serving to create a closer fit while not interfering with expansion of the leg openings and the weist band.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists of an improved construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Fig. 1 is a front view showing the improved undergarment in use.
Fig. 2 is a. side view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a rear view.
Fig. 4 ls a side view showing a modlfied coustruction.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary view looking at the in- 2 ner face of a side portion of the improved garment.
This improved garment has a body formed of thin fabric, such as rayon, silk, or the like end of such shape that it provides front and rear sections l and 2 connectecl at their lower ends by a crotch purtlon 3. The front sectionis V-shaped and tapers downwardly from its full depth with its lower end merging into the front end of the crotch portion which is quite narrow anti Will fit snugly between the legs of a. person wearing the garment. The rear seution is of substantially the same width throughout its depth but has its lower end merging into the rear end of the crotch portion. This rear section is of such length and width that when the garment is put on it will cover the buttocks and fit snugly about the lower portion thereof, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. End portions of side edges cf the two sections are brought together and secured to each other by seams 4 which extend vertically from upper encls of leg openings 5 formed along opposite sides of the garment. The leg openings extend for substantially the full depth of the garment and the seams 4 extend from the leg openings to the upper edge of the garment, as shown in Fig. 5. Along edges of the leg openings are elastic bindings 6 which are stretchable longitudinall and securecl at their ends so that they have a tendency to contract ancl draw the side edge portions of the garment into close fitting engagement with the legs of a person wearing the garment. These s ic b gs also cause side edges of the crotch portion to be held snugly in place but since the bindingg may be stretched longitudinally, it is possible to greatly enlarge the leg openings and draw the crotch portion anal the front and rear sections towards 0ne side where it will be out of the way when responding to calls of na.ture. It will thus be seen that when the garment is put on with its upper portion fitting about the waist portion of a persons body and and covered by a girdle, or similar foundation garment, it will not be necessary to pull the garment downwardly end then pu.ll it upwardly end tuck it under the girdle. The garment will therefore always fit smoothly about the waist and wrinkles will not be formed which would make the garment uncomfortable. Strips or tapes l which are formed of elastic fabric a.re sewed along upper edges of the front and rear sections and form an elastic waist band extending the full circumference of the upper end of the garment. This permits the waist band portion cf the garment to be stretched as it is put on end drawn upwardly into place. After the
