This invention relates to a cuff link of particularly the type which is adapted to secure together two portions of a cuff of the French type wherein there are several thicknesses or plies of material which. are in face to face relation.

Oneof the objects of this invention is to provide a head which will hook over the free. edges of the cuff and be of such construction as to assist in maintaining the cuff link in position in the button hole of the cuff.

Another object of this invention is to provide an arrangement so that the hook portion of the head of the link may be more readily positioned over the edges of the cuff to hold the free edges together.

Another object Of this invention is to provide an arrangement to hook over the edges of the cuff with some resiliency for urging the edge portions more firmly into face to face relation.

Another object of this invention is to provide an arrangement so that the edges of the cuff are gripped and the head is better retained against movement from a desired position when locked in the button holes of the cuff.

Another object of this invention is to arrange the cufi link so that the post, which joins two opposite heads, is in fixed relation to the head of the link which extends over the edges of the cuff.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out specifically in the appended claims.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a fragmentary portion of a French cuff, with the cufi link in position.

In proceeding with this invention, I provide a post to be locked in the button holes of the cufi, having secured to one end of this post a movable head which may be held in either one of two right angular positions, one of which is in line with the post, for insertion through the button holes, while the other is at right angles thereto, to block withdrawal of the post from the button holes. At the other end of the post, I provide a fixed head, which. at one end is hook shaped with a joint located along a portion of the 1109 so that the end may be swung with reference, to the body of the head toward and from the body of the head. A spring is utilized for moving the end about. the; joint toward thebody of the head, so asto urge the face to face plies of the cuff into closer relation, and to. provid a grip on the edge portions for better retaining the: head in a desired location in the cuff.

With reference to the drawings, I0 designates the post which is formed of two parts, II and I2 in contact, as at l3, but spaced along the major portion of their extent so as to receive between them the movable head I4, which is pivoted by a pin I5, extending through the head l4 and through the bifurcated portions I I and I2 of the post. Means ar provided for retaining this head I4 in either of the positions shown in Figure 2 or the position shown in Figure 3, such for instance, as springs within the movable head I4 to engage a square pin I5 which extends through the head, as shown on Patent Number 2,093,723. It is apparent that when the head is in the position shown in Figure 3, it may easily be pushed through the button holes I6 and ll of the portions I8 and I9 of the cuff, designated generally 21!, and after so positioning through the cufi, it may be swung to a position at right angles, such as shown in Figures 2 and 4, so as to prevent the post from being withdrawn from the button holes I6 and I! of the cuff.

A head 2I is fixed to the end of the contiguous portions of the posts parts I I and I2 and extends in a plane, generally at right angles to the post It. At one end the body portion of the head is curved downwardly, as at 22, and has an end portion 23 hinged to the portion 22 and continuing the curvature. This end 23 is movable with reference to the portion 22, by reason of the pivot pin 24, which extends through eyes and cars 25 and 26 respectively on the portions 22 and 23 so as to hingedly mount portion 23 with reference to the body 2|. A spring 21 extends about the pivot pin 24, and has its end portions 28 and 29 engaging the surface of the portions 22 and 23 so as to tend to move portion 23 toward the body 2| of the head, and into engagement with the portion I9 of the cuff, so as to tend to force the portions I8 and IE1 at their edges into closer contact and provide a grip on them.

In use, the post may be inserted through the button holes of the suit either with the end portion 23 generally parallel to the post and then after insertion into cuff is locked in the arcuate portion 22, or the portion 23 may be released to move into contact with plies of the cuff and engage them, as shown in Figure 2. In other cases, the cufi link may be inserted into the cuff and after insertion, the edges of the cuff may be buckled somewhat and the portion 23 swung 5 about its hinge connection for positioning aboutthe edges of the cuff, as shown in Figure 2.

I claim:

1. A cufi link comprising a first head member comprising a body part curved at one end and a second part hinged to the edge of said curved end to extend back upon and beneath said body' part whereby said parts together extend over one outer surface of a cuff and about the edges 2. A cufi link comprising a first head member comprising a body part curved at one end and a second part hinged to the edge of said curved end'to extend back upon and beneath said body part whereby said parts together extend over one outer surface of a cuff and about the edges of a cuff and over the opposite outer surface thereof, a post secured at one of its ends to said head member to pass thru all Of the buttonholes of the cuff and a second head member at the other end of the post to extend over the said opposite outer surface of the cuif to assist in retaining the post in the buttonholes of the cuff, said post being secured to the body part and the other member being spring urged toward said post.
