Description

J y 1950 G. LIEB CONTAINER DISPENSER Filed Sept. 29, 1947 INVENTOR. 6:04;: {/55 ATTORNEY Patented July 18, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,516,061 I CONTAINER. DISPENSER George Lieb, Newark, N. J.
Application September 29, 1947, Serial No. 776,695
1 Claim. 1
One of the more popular forms of packaging foods and beverages in current use is to fill containers or cans therewith and then hermetically seal the same. Such containers or cans are quite popularly made of metals and in convenient sizes for handling.
The device of the instant invention is a dispenser designed for use in connection with such containers. The device enables the consumer to rapidly puncture the container at spaced points simultaneously, and to dispense the contents thereof.
The device of the invention embodies certain novel and highly advantageous features of construction, which make the same highly practical and eificient in operation.
The foregoing and other advantageous objects of the invention will become apparent from a consideration of the drawings and the description which follow. The drawings illustrate one of many possible forms of the invention.
It will be apparent, from a consideration of said drawings, and the following description, that the invention may be embodied in other forms suggested thereby, and such other forms as come within the scope of the appended claims are to be considered within the scope and purview of the instant invention.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a container to which the dispenser of my invention is shown applied,
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the dispenser,
Fig. 3 is a plan view of a blank from which the spout member of said dispenser is formed,
Fig. 4 is an elevational view of the spout member assembled from said blank, with a center blade member medially secured therein,
Fig. 5 is an end elevational view, taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 4,
Fig, 6 is a fragmentary plan view, taken on line 66 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. '7 is an elevational view of a center blade member positioned in the spout member of my invention as shown in Fig. 5.
The device of my invention may be made of any suitable material and of any convenient size. The drawings illustrate a practical form for use in connection with one of the standard sizes of containers, the latter being indicated by the reference character C. The dispenser comprises a pair of arm members iii and II which are pivotally secured together as at 2, at a point dividing the same into long grip portions it and M, which may be suitably curled for facility of use, said grip portions being adapted to be conveniently grasped in one hand, as will become apparent from a consideration of the drawings. The pivot l2 further divides the arms into the shorter jaw ends l5 and it, one of which is provided with a piercing vent prong H which may be secured to or formed integral therewith. The other jaw member is provided with a spout member l8 which may be secured thereto in any convenient or desired manner. The spout member is preferably formed from the blank shown in Fig. 3, said blank being cut to define upper spaced triangular walls 49 and I9 and lateral flanges 20, 20'. The blank is formed up as shown in Fig. 4 so that the upper walls are in spaced parallel relation and the flanges 293 and 20' are in registry, thus defining the tubular body portion 2i having a depending lip 2|. Center blade 22 provided with a pointed upper end 23 is secured between the walls 19 and E9 with the pointed end 23 projecting above said walls. The spout member 58 thus defines a generally tubular body bisected at the upper end thereof by the pointed end .23 of the blade 21.
In operation, the device is opened by separating the grip portions It and It and is then clamped upon the container C, as, for example, as shown in Fig. 1, adjacent one end of the container. In this one operation, the piercing vent prong i1 will penetrate the wall of the container at one point, embodying itself therein. Said prong is preferably provided with an aperture II to assure the maintenance of an air vent. At a diametrically opposite point, the pointed end 23 of the center blade 22 of the spout is will pierce the wall of the container and crack the same, and, as the spout is moved inwardly in the container wall responsive to the pressure exerted by the user upon the grip portions l3 and M, the material of the container .wall adjacent the point at which the same has been pierced by the pointed end 23 of the spout blade, will be rolled back along the tapered walls l9, l9 forming a seal interiorly of the container, with the result that the contents of the container will be necessarily directed into the spout through the open upper end 24 thereof and thence out along the lip 2 l thereof, as shown in Fig. 1.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A container dispenser comprising a pair of arm members secured together and provided with jaw ends, an apertured air vent prong secured to one of the jaw members and a spout secured to the other jaw member, said spout comprising a tubu- 3 4 lar body portion through which the contents of UNITED STATES PATENTS the container may be dispensed when the con- Number Name Date tainer is pierced by the spout, Said spout being 2 025 450 Higbee 24 1935 provided at the upper end thereof with spaced i 5 575 Reed 1937 triangular Walls and having a depending lip p 5 2:107 54 Vail Feb 933 tion, a blade secured medially of the spout ben tween the upper spaced walls thereof, and a, point- FOREIGN PATENTS ed end on said blade projecting above said. walls. mbe Country Date GEORGE LIEB. 327,073 Germany Oct. 8, 1920 REFERENCES CITED 10 The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
