UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALVIN J. KERSH, OF OAKLAND, TEXAS.
PLOW-COLTER.
SFECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 251,602, dated December 27, 1881.
Application tiled September 29, 1881.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALVIN J. KERsH, a citizen of the United States, of Oakland, in the county of Lavaca and State of TeX-as, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Colters for Flows; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description ot' the construction and operation ot' the same, reference being had to the annexed v drawings, making a part ot' this specification, and to the letters and gures ot' reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of a perspective view of aplow with my improved colter attached, and Fig. 2 is a side view ot' the colter.
This invention has relation to colters for plows; and it consists in the novel construc- .tion and arrangement of the plow-standard, the plow-point, and a removable colter adapted to be secured to either side ofthe standard in front ofthe plow-point, to form a cutter or share, as will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, Adesignates the plow-standard; B, the shovel or plow-point, and O the removable colter. The colter O has an upper rear arm, perforated at a a, by which it may be bolted to either side of the plow-standard in front of the shovel or point. The rear outline, b, ofthe colter conforms to the front curvature ofthe (Model.)
shovel or point. The cuttingedge ot' the colter is convex, as shown, running toa point below, and notched above at c. to form a point, d. The colter forms a landside for the plow, and, as before stated, is removable, and may be applied to either side of the standard.
A one-piece standard and landside having a recess to receive the shank ot the colter, the latter having a forward projection that rests upon the share, is not new, and is not broadly claimed herein. Protection is asked only for the limited construction hereinafter specicall y claimed.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent', is- In a plow, the combination, with the standard A and shovel B, of the colter attachment consisting` ofa pointed colter or cutter forming a landside f'or the shovel, having its rear outline curved to conform to the face-curve ot' the shovel, the upper rear perforated arm notched ate to form the point d, and adapted to be secured to either side ot' the standard, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence ot' two witnesses. Y
ALVIN JACOB KERSH.
