(01. 273-97) tached to a-container in which the ball is to be caught. Such toys are commonly used by children at play, and considerable skill is required and developed in the child in its use.

The present invention relates to an improvement in such a toy and more particularly to the improvement in construction and manufacture, as will be more fully explained in the specification as set forth below describing an embodiment of the same whentaken in connection with the drawings in which: 7

The toy, as illustrated in the drawings, is preferably molded from plastic such as polystyrene, cellulose acetate, or some other common plastic molding material. The toy is comprised in general of four parts, the bell shaped receptacle, the handle 2, return ball, 3, and the rubber cord 4. The bell shaped receptacle I may be molded if desired with a smooth rounded lip 5 and a chamher or cone narrowing down to the handle end, 6. The open cone or cup is rounded at the end as indicated at I. The small end of the receptacle is rounded at the end of the conical wall and provided with a flat end I, through which a substantially circular hole is made which is recessed at diametrically opposite sides in slots 8 and 9. In the flat end surface on the inside of the cone adjacent the recessed slots are inwardly projected bosses or pins l0 and II diametrically opposite each other. The handle 2 is provided with an end which engages the hole and slots in the receptacle. This handle is formed with an outwardly extended flange I2 from the flat surface of which a circular collar I3 projects centrally with respect to the axis of the handle. This collar I3 is just slightly smaller than the rounded hole I4 in the end of the receptacle and fits into the hole and may be readily turned in it. The collar I3 merges into an anchor-like member I5 which projects from the flat face of the collar and is provided with two arms I6 and I! diametrically opposite one another extending" from a rounded centralsection I8 of the member The rounded section I8 has an axis which is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the' handle 2. In the flat end of the cup the wall thickness adjacent the hole "I4-varies in thickness from a thicker section nearthe bosses orpins I0 and II to la thinner-section-in the regions marked 20 and M. This tapering may be noted both in Figaway from the position of the pins. The wall adjacent the slot and the hole in thisposition of the handle is such that a sliding fit is provided." As-thehandle, however, is turned further,

the increasing thickness of the wall will bring about a binding between the handle and the wall of thetcup until-the arms reach the position'of the: pins IIland-II whereupon they can be turned-" no further.

In assembly the handle is inserted through the hole of the receptacle after the return ball cord has been tied, with the projecting arm I6 and I1 aligned in the slots 8 and 9 in the end of the cone. The handle is then turned about its axis with respect to the receptacle until the arms I6 and I1 bind against the fiat surface of the cap beside the hole M.

It is a simple matter to replace the cord by a new cord when this is desired. All that must be done is to turn the handle as viewed in Figure 2 of the drawing in a clockwise direction until the arms of the handle are aligned with the slots 8 and 9 whereupon the handle may be drawn clear of the cup or cone and a new return cord easily attached.

I claim:

1. A toy of the type described comprising a plastic cup having a flat base section with a round hole axially positioned with respect to the cup and slots extending outwards from the sides of the hole in diametrically opposite positions with respect to said hole, the wall at either side of the slots of the hole being tapered in thickness in the same rotational direction, a handle having a flanged end with a cylindrical collar fitting into said hole and outwardly extending arms diametrically positioned with respect to the co1- round hole axially positioned with-respectto the:
