Application November 10, 1947, Serial No. 785,100
2 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in window decorations and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a rigid drapery attachment for window casings and the like.
Another important object of the present invention is to provide a window decoration of opaque material having light admitting openings whereby the same may be applied to a window casing with very little interference to the light normally admitted through a window.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a window decoration that is extremely neat and attractive in appearance.
A further aim of the present invention is to provide a window decoration of the aforementioned character that is simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the present window decoration applied to a window casing;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal vertical section view taken substantially on the plane of section line 2--2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a transverse horizontal sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 3---3 of Figure 1; and,
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numerals l0 and i2 represent a pair of flat, rigid, substantially triangular side members generally of opaque material, each having a straight outer edge 14, a, straight upper edge I6, and a downwardly and outwardly inclined scalloped or undulated inner edge I8.
Rigidly secured to the inner faces of the side members [0 and 12 adjacent the edges l4, are attaching strips 20 that are secured to the side pieces 22 of a window casing 24 in such a manner that the outer edges l4 of the side members will be coplanar with the outer edges 26 of the side pieces.
The numeral 28 represents a substantially rectangular, rigid valance having straight side edges 30, a straight upper edge 32, and an undulated or scalloped or lower edge 34. The inner face of the valance 28 is retained spaced parallel to the outer faces of the side members Ill and [2 by side strips 38 secured to the inner faces of the valance 28 adjacent edges 30. The lower corners of these side strips 36 are notched as at 38 to overlie the outer faces of the side members I0 and I2 and the free edges of the side strips frictionally bear against the strips 20.
Fixed to the inner face of the valance 28 adjacent the upper edge 32, is an upper strip 40 having openings 42 that engage the free ends 44 of angle members 46 carried by the upper member 48 of the window casing 24.
The side members It and I2, and the valance 28 are provided with a plurality of light admitting openings 50, and it is preferred that the outer faces of the side members and valances be provided with a suitable design 52 that will add to the attractiveness of the entire decoration.
Fixed to the inner face of the valance 28, is a spacer block 54 that will retain the valance 28 spaced parallel to the side members It} and I2.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A rigid drapery comprising a pair of vertically disposed attaching strips mounted on a window casing, a pair of rigid substantially triangular side members mounted on the attaching strips and spaced from a window casing, an upper attaching strip mounted on the upper portion of said pair of attaching strips and said side "members, and an upper member mounted on the upper attaching strip and spaced from the side members, said upper member overlying the upper portions of said side members.
2. The combination of claim 1 and a spacer block mounted on the inner face of said upper member bearing against the outer faces of said side members and retaining the upper member spaced parallel to the side members.
