The invention relates to a socketfwrench assembly, and more especially to a socket wrench racking container. v

Another object of the invention is the provision of a container of this character, wherein the same is most useful to machinists, mechanics, shop workers, or other persons having need for the wrenches contained therein, the container being of novel construction and is unique in the assembly of its parts, which are few in number, so that such container will be compact and handy for use.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a container of this character, which is lsimple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eflicient for the purposes intended thereof, strong, durable, readily portable, assuring the indexing of the sizes of the socket wrenches to be held thereby, so that correct selection can be made for the service of a particular sized wrench, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in View the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described. illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which show the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.

Closing the top area of the body Il) is a swinging lid or cover I4, which through the pintle I5 is hinged to one side wall I I of the said body, and this lid or cover I4 is held closed by a latching hasp I5' of any selected type, one type being clearly shown in Figures 1 and 3 of the drawings.
Fitted within the body I0 for swinging movement through the open top area thereof when the lid or cover I4 is opened, is a, pair of racking units A and B, respectively, each in the form of a leaflike elongated plate section I 6, having a, pintle sleeve I1 at one end for a cross pintle I8, the latter for the unit B being xedly pivoted in the side walls I I of the body I0, while the pintle I8 for the unit A is slidably pivoted in transversely aligned bayonet shaped slots, one being identied at I9, in Figures l and 2 of the drawings, so that this particular unit A can shift upwardly in a vertical direction and horizontally in a longitudinal direction toward and away from the location of the unit B, which should be apparent from Figure 2. The unit B has its pivotal Iconnection spaced from and beneath the limits of the pivotal points of movement of the unit A.
Each plate section I6 is provided with a crowning bridge or ridge 20, having in opposite risers ZI thereof aligned holes 22, which are variably sized in conformity with the cross-sectional sizes and shapes of a group of socket wrench braces or handles 23 to be removably racked in the bridge or ridge 20, as appears in Figure 3 of the drawings. The outer face of the bridge or ridge 20 has index scale markings 24 thereon which coincide with the respective holes 22 in conformity with the sizes of the wrench braces or handle 23 accommodated therein, thus enabling selection of a particular sized wrench from the `rracking unit A or B vto be brought into service.
The units A and B in their order are swung downwardly Yand inwardly within the body I0 Aof the container for the racking of groups or sets of socket wrenches denoted generally at C, in their arrangement of sizes, respectively, to be confined and held in the said container convenient for handy service, then when it is desired to bring one of the wrenches into service, the units A and B, in their order of arrangement are swung upwardly and outwardly through the open top area of the body i0, after the lid or cover I4 has been opened. Then a user of a wrench from the group or set consults the indexing scale markings 24 for the selection of a particular sized wrench desired as held in the racking units. Each racking unit A and B at the end remote from the pintle I8 is notched at 25 according to the size of the bit end 26 of the wrench C to be accommodated therein for the proper racking arrangement of the groups of the same to be conned and held in the container through size placement of such wrenches.
What is claimed is:
A container for a socket Wrench assembly, comprising a rectangular box-like body having an open top and a lid for closing said open top, two opposed sides of Said body each having an L- shaped slot therein, said slots being in alignment with each other transversely of said body, a plurality of racks pivoted in said body, pivots on said racks, the pivots of one of said racks being disposed in said slots and the pivots of the remainder of said racks being xed in the said opposed sides of the body, each of said racks being of plate formation and having a channel shaped portion centrally thereof parallel to the line about which it pivots, said channel shaped portion having pairs of socket forming apertures therein to receive tools, and said pairs of socket forming apertures being of different sizes to accommodate tools of diierent sizes and indicia for marking said pairs of apertures prominently positioned on each of said racks, a notch at the upper end of each of said racks in vertical plane alignment with each pair of socket forming apertures to receive a certain portion of each tool and to correspond with the indiciaJ on said rack, said pivots permitting said racks to be pivoted outwardly of said body and said slots permitting displacement of certain of the racks with regard to the remainder thereof.
