A right-angularly shaped swinging latch member 3| is also connected to the left hand flange by the rivet stud 29, being adapted in its vertical position, as shown in Fig. l, to permit movement of the bar 2| into its vertical folded position, and adapted in its horizontal position, as shown in Fig. 3, to retain the bar 2| in its folded position.

The length of the strut bar 28, and its point of connection with the bar 2|, are so proportioned that in the extended position of the bar 2|, with the pin 24 engaged with the abutment shoulder Hi, the bar 2| is horizontally disposed. The length of the bar 2| between the pivot 33 and its outer end is greater than the length of the bar between the pivot 30 and the pin 24, so that in the horizontally extended position the major weight of the garments supported thereon will be outwardly of the pivot 30, and will therefore tend to maintain the bar in its horizontal position.

The hanger is folded by swinging the outer end of the bar 2| upwardly, causing the pin 24 to move downwardly behind the guide and retaining bar Hi to the point where it engages the lower abutment shoulder 20. In this position the hanger bar and the strut member are disposed in the space between the left hand flange of the supporting member and the edge of the retaining and guide bar I6, thus preventing sidewise displacement or twisting of the bars. In the folded position the latch member 3| is swung into its horizontal retaining position, as shown in Fig. 3.

I have illustrated and described a preferred and satisfactory embodiment of the invention, but it will be understood that changes may be made therein, within the spirit and scope thereof, as defined in the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

l. A clothes hanger comprising a vertical supporting member having a vertically disposed attaching base, vertical slot means carried by said supporting member having a vertical guideway surface parallel to and outwardly spaced from the forward surface of said base and having an abutment stop at a point intermediate the upper and lower ends of said supporting member, a hanger bar in the form of a flat strip wider than saidslot means and having side edges and a plurality of longitudinally spaced clothes hanger receiving apertures, a transversely projecting stud at the inner end of said hanger bar engaged with said guideway surface of said slot means for vertical movement longitudinally thereof, a suspension bar pivotally connected at its upper end to said supporting member contiguous to its upper end and pivotally connected at its lower end to said hanger bar intermediate its ends and at a point adjacent the longitudinal edge thereof which is adjacent said base in the vertical folded position of said hanger, said apertures of said hanger bar being disposed substantially adjacent the opposed longitudinal edge thereof, and the width of said suspension bar being substantially less than the width of said hanger bar whereby in the vertical folded position of said hanger bar said suspension bar occupies a vertical position at one side of said hanger bar and at least a substantial portion of each of said apertures is exposed outwardly beyond said suspension bar.

A clothes hanger comprising a vertical supporting member in the form of a right angle cross-section strip having a vertically disposed attaching base and a forwardly extending flange at at least one of its vertical edges, vertical slot means carried by said supporting member having a vertical guideway surface parallel to and outwardly spaced from the forward surfaceof said base and having an abutment stop at a point intermediate the upper and lower ends of said supporting member, a hanger bar in the form of a flat strip wider than said slot means and having side edges and a plurality of longitudinally spaced clothes hanger receiving apertures, a.

said hanger bar engaged with said guideway surface of said slot means for vertical movement longitudinally thereof, a suspension bar p votally connected at its upper end to the inner side of said flange contiguous to its upper end and pivotally connected at its lower end to a side of said hanger bar intermediate its ends and at a point adjacent the longitudinal edge thereof which is adjacent said base in the vertical folded position of said hanger bar, said apertures of said hanger bar being disposed substantially adjacent the opposed longitudinal edge thereof, and the width of said flange and said suspension bar each being substantially less than the width of said hanger bar whereby in the vertical folded position of said hanger bar said suspension bar 00- cupies a vertical position between said flange and said hanger bar and at least a substantial portion of each of said apertures is exposed outwardly beyond said flange and said suspension bar.

A clothes hanger comprising a vertical supporting member having a vertically disposed attaching base, vertical slot means carried by said supporting member having a vertical guideway surface parallel to and outwardly spaced from the forward surface of said base and having an abutment stop at a point intermediate the upper and lower ends of said supporting member, a hanger bar having a plurality of longitudinally spaced clothes hanger receiving apertures, a rotatable transversely projecting stud rotatably mounted at the inner end of said hanger bar engaged with said guideway surface of said slot means for vertical rolling movement longitudinally thereof, a roller rotatably mounted upon said stud having its periphery projected beyond the inner end of said hanger bar and rotatably engaging the forward surface of said base when said hanger bar is angularly disposed with respect to said supporting member whereby as said hanger bar is moved from a vertical to a horizon-;

tal position its inner end is guided vertically by said slot means andsaid roller has rotatable engagement with said base; and a suspension bar pivotally connected at its upper end to saidsupporting member contiguous to its upper end and pivotally connected at its, lower end to said hanger bar intermediate its ends.

4. A clothes hanger comprising a vertical supporting member in the form of a right angle cross-section strip having va. vertically disposed attaching base and a forwardly extending flange. at at least one of its vertical edges, vertical slot means carried by said supporting member having a vertical guideway surface parallel to and out-- wardly spaced from the forward surface of said. base and having an abutment stop at a point intermediate the upper and lower ends of said supporting member, a hanger bar in the form of a:

fiat strip wider than said slot means and having side edges and a plurality of longitudinally spaced 2 clothes hanger receiving apertures, a transversely projecting stud at the inner end of said hanger bar engaged with said guideway surface of said slot means for vertical movement longitudinally thereof, a suspension bar pivotally connected at its upper end to the inner side of said flange contiguous to its upper end and pivotally connected at its lower end to a side of said hanger bar intermediate its ends and at a point adjacent the longitudinal edge thereof which is adjacent said base in the vertical folded position of said hanger bar, said apertures of said hanger bar being disposed substantially adjacent the opposed longitudinal edge thereof, and the width of said flange and said suspension bar each being substantially less than the width of said hanger bar whereby in the vertical folded position of said hanger bar said suspension bar cocupies a vertical position between said flange and said hanger bar and at least a substantial portion of each of said apertures is exposed outwardly beyond said flange and said suspension bar, and an angular latch member having a side portion, pivotally mounted on said flange at a point contiguous to its upper end and below the upper 6 end of said hanger bar, in the folded substantial- 1y vertical position of the latter, for swinging movement about a horizontal axis, and a retaining portion at right angles to said side portion adapted to be manually swung above the upper end of said flange to unlatching position and adapted to be swung to latching position forwardly of said flange and said hanger bar in said folded position of the latter.
