This invention relates toinflatable toys. and has particular reference to atoy ordoll constructed and arranged for removably receiving an inflatable bladder and for securing the same therein so as to prevent sagging thereof and distortion ofthe body of the toy or doll.
Thee'iinvention has for an object'the provision of atoy:or:doll having a flexibleacasing constitute ing: a portion of the body thereof"whichois-"proe vided with an opening for emplacing an inflatable bladder therein and for removing the same therefrom in the event that it is found necessary to repair leaks therein and through which opening the bladder may be inflated and after inflation the opening secured in closed relation.
The invention also comprehends the provision of interengageable fastening means carried respectively by the upper portion of the doll body and the inflatable bladder for releasably securing the bladder within the body of the doll so as to prevent sagging thereof and to maintain the opposite portions of the bladder in stretched condition in both inflated and uninflated relation to thereby prevent distortion Of the bladder within the body of the toy or doll.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, reference is now made to the following specification and accompanying d awings in which the preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary view in elevation of a doll constructed in accordance with the invention and illustrating the same with parts broken away to show the underlying construction.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken approximately on the vertical medial line of Fig. l and with the lower portion of the bladder shown in full lines.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary transverse vertical sectional view through the upper portion of the body and one of the arms and illustrating the bladder secured to the swivel connection therebetween.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view taken approximately on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a view in elevation of the inflatable bladder.
Fig. 6 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view taken approximately on line G@ of Fig. 1.
Fig. '7 is a side view of th upper portion of the inflatable bladder.
Referring to the drawings by characters of 2 reference, the toy indioatedaigenerallyybyt'the reference -character A is in a the -form i.of a doll provided with a.--.flexible :-outer casing 5W" con-1.- sti-tuting the *torso or "body thereof and to which" are secured arm and leg members [I andnlZrand a headr-lt. The arm. and legimembers and head maybe of any desired construction and'. as :il-.- lustrated are or hollow'formation. andzconnected-t with 'thebody-of the doll for relative-movement. .38 .to simulate the movement'of a-;child.. As; illustrated the casing Ill is formed. with annular; openings 54 through thelopposite-side-walls theree of adjacent the upper end of the torso or body through which protrude an annular spacing element l swivelly connected with annular disks l6 and il on the opposite sides thereof which frictionally engage with the inner wall of the arm member l i in surrounding relation with the arm opening it and the annular edge portion of the opening H4 in the casing 10 for swivelly connecting the arm members to the body of the doll. A pivot pin l9 extends through aligned apertures in the spacin element I5 and disks to and ll and is formed with headed outer ends for securing the same together so as to permit relative swinging movement of the arm members I! with reference to the body of the doll about the pivot pin It) as an axis. The leg member l2 and the head 13 may be connected with the casing 50 in any desired manner and as illustrated the upper ends of the leg members are secured in openings in the casing H) by means of wires which engage about the edge portions 2| or the casing in the reduced annular grooves at the inner ends of the leg members.
In order to provide means for maintaining the casing It in expanded body forming condition, an inflatable bladder 22 is provided fashioned of rubber having sufficient flexibility to substantially flll the cavity within the casing It! so as to maintain all parts thereof in a stretched or taut condition. The bladder 22 conforms substantially in configuration with the casing I0 or body of the doll and the same is provided on opposite sides adjacent the upper end thereof with tabs 23 secured at their inner ends to the bladder to project outwardly therefrom. Interengageable fastening means such as sockets and studs 24 and 25 are provided respectively on the tabs 23 and straps 26 secured at their ends between the casing It and the disks [1 for releasably securing the upper portion of the bladder to the opposite sides of the doll body with the walls of the bladder maintained in substantially stretched or taut condition to thereby prevent 3 sagging of the bladder with consequent distortion of the body of the doll.
The bladder 22 is adapted to be inserted in the casing 10 through a transversely extending opening 21 in the lower portion thereof which is closed by a flap 28 secured to the casing above the opening 21 by a line of stitching 29 and adapted to be secured in closed relation by interengageable fastening means such as socket and stud fastening elements 30 secured respectively on the outer face of the casing adjacent the opening 21 and on the inner face of the flap 28 adjacent the lower edge thereof. The bladder 22 is formed with an inflating tube 3| connected with the bottom wall thereof and which is provided with an inwardly opening outwardly closing valve 32. The tube 3! is of a length to extend to the opening 2? so that the valve 32 thereof may be engaged by a pressure supply line for inflating the bladder through the opening.
What is claimed is:
1. A doll including a hollow flexible body portion, arm members, means pivotally connecting the arm members with the body portion for relative movement with reference thereto, an inflatable elastic bladder located within said body portion and interengageable fastening means carried by said means and by the bladder at the opposite sides adjacent the upper end thereof for releasably securing said bladder in position in the body portion and for preventing sagging and distortion thereof in the body portion.
2. A doll including a hollow flexible body portion, arm members, elements pivotally connected together and secured in said body portion and in said arm members for pivotally connecting the arm members with the body portion for relative movement with reference thereto, an inflatable elastic bladder located within said body and conforming to the configuration thereof for maintaining the same in expanded relation, arcuate straps projecting inwardly from said pivotally connected elements and secured thereto, tabs secured to said bladder to project outwardly from the opposite sides and adjacent the upper end thereof and interengageable fastening means carried by said straps and tabs for releasably securing the bladder in position in the body portion and for preventing sagging and distortion thereof.
