AFC] RNEYS Patented Mar. 21, 1950 Ul'l'l) STATEg FFlCE 1 Claim. 1
My present invention relates to an improved pen or pencil holder and more especially to a device adapted to be secured to the users wrist in such manner as to be retracted by spring tension when not in use, and capable of being protracted against the spring tension for conventional use as grasped between the fingers.
The device generally comprises a Wrist band and its integral arm, upon which is pivotally mounted the extension arm, spring retracted, and a pivoted pencil support on the latter arm together with means for securing a pencil on the support.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention according to the best mode I have thus far devised, but it will be understood that various changes and alterations may be made in the exemplified structure within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the device of my invention mounted ready for use in protracted position.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the device retracted.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the extended holder.
Referring now to the drawings I have illustrated the present preferred embodiment of my invention as comprising a band 2 of metal or other flexible material normally open to facilitate mounting on the wrist W. An arm l extends forwardly of the band and has upturned ears 5 apertured at 8 to receive the journal lugs ill of the extension arm l2. A spring M is secured at it and I8 respectively on the arms 4 and E2.
The arm l2 also has ears 2t apertured at 22 to receive the journal lugs 24 of the support 28 and the pencil 28 is secured on the support by spring loops 39 and 32.
Thus it will be apparent that the spring M will normally retract the arms into folded position as seen in Fig. 2 and to protract the device for use, the pencil, and its support are moved forward pivoting the support with elation to the arm l2 and pivoting the arm 12 against the spring M and with relation to the arm 4.
The pencil in protracted position may be grasped normally by the fingers F and thumb T and when the need is completed, the fingers are released and the pencil will automatically be re-- tracted by the spring It.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A pen or pencil holder comprising a wrist band made of a flexible metal strip, an arm of similar material formed integral with the band and extending at right angles therefrom, apertured upstanding ears on the outer end of the arm in op-- posed relation to each other, an extension having outstanding journal lugs thereon pivotally mounted in said arm by reason of the journal lugs in the apertured ears on saidarm, spring means connected to said arm and said extension for retracting the extension into superimposed relation to said arm and said extension adapted to be extended forwardly of said arm when the extension is swung upwardly on the journal lugs against the tension of the spring, apertured ears on the forward ends of said extension, a pencil support having journal lugs thereon receivable in the apertured ears of the extension whereby said support is pivoted on said extension, and relatively spaced spring loops carried by said support for securing a pencil or pen on said support.
