DISPENSING CONTAINER FOR BAND-SAW COILS Filed Aug. 30, 1947 I 3nnento1:
Patented Mar. 21, 1950 DISPENSING CONTAINER FOR BAND-SAW COILS George R. Wilcox, Bernardston, Mass, assignor to Millers Falls Company, Greenfield, Mass, a corporation of Massachusetts Application August 30, 1947, Serial No. 771,534
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a dispensing container for band saw coils and its object is to provide such a container which will be economical in manufacture, due to the material used and to its ease of assembly, and shall be efficient in use both from the standpoint of storage of band saw coils and the ease with which any desired length may be severed from the coil.
Other objects of the invention will in part be obvious and will in part appear hereinafter.
The invention accordingly comprises the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts, which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter set forth, and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the claim.
For a fuller understanding of the nature and objects of the invention reference should be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the dispenser showing one end of the band saw coil projecting therefrom;
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrows; and
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.
The container is made up, as shown, by two plates I and 2 preferably of plastic material with annular grooves 4 and 5 molded in the face of each plate. A band of thin sheet metal 6 of a length slightly less than the circumference of the grooves 3 and 5 is inserted in one of the plates I. The coil i of band saw is placed inside, the other plate 2 placed over it, and four screws 8 inserted to hold the assembly together.
The end of the band saw coil is brought out from the slot 9 which is between the two ends of the band 6 and placed under one of the screws 8 as shown in Fig. 1. The end of the coil will then not project at an inconvenient angle from the container and the user can pull out the coil and cut off any desired length close to the screw so that the loose end will not be in any way bothersome.
The plates i and 2 are each provided with four windows 3 which expose the band saw coil within the container for the purposes of inspection or so that the coil may be moved around in the container if necessary.
These plates l and 2 are also provided with depressed pocket-like areas It which may be used for advertising inscriptions either printed directly thereon or upon cards inserted therein. Similarly the center octagonal depression ll may be used for advertising or an advertising card.
A hole l2 goes through the center of the container so that it may be conveniently hung for storage.
The shape is polygonal, preferably octagonal, so that the container may be stood on edge Without rolling.
Screws 8 are located in the corners of the octagonal plates projecting from the circle. At these points bosses l3 project from the plates and the screws 8 pass through the bosses of one plate and are threaded into the bosses of the other plate as shown at the lower end of Fig. 2.
It is noted that four screws are used while bosses are provided at each of the eight corners of the octagon. This is done because if only four bosses were provided two dies would be required for the two plates l and 2 which in the construction shown are alike and can be made from the same die.
Since certain changes may be made in the above construction and difierent embodiments of the invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
It is also to be understood that the following claim is intended to cover all of the generic and specific features of the invention herein described, and all statements of the scope of the invention which as a matter of language might be said to fall therebetween.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a dispensing container for saw coils, a polygonal cover plate having an annular groove on its inner surface near its periphery, a second polygonal cover plate having a similar groove in its inner face, a thin band mounted in said groove of a length just short of the length of said grooves so as to leave a dispensing slot between the ends of the band, screws connecting the two plates and passing over the band at points where the corners of the polygonal plates project from the circle.
GEORGE R. WILCOX.
