(01. 2-235) My invention relates to closures for trousers or the like garments and. more particularly to closures for the waistbands of-trousers or the like.

Objects of my inventionrare to provide an easy. quick and reliable :connection on the trousers slot or of the ends of at waist band, to provide an easy and quick disconnection, and to provide a neat appearance of the trousers.

Other objects are to obtain these results with simple and inexpensive means, to provide one end of a waist band or one overlapping part with a hook adapted to engage a button afiixed to the other end or the other overlapping part, and thereby to make possible the use of a button as one element of a hook connection and without providing a button hole in the cloth.

Further objects are to provide a hook simply made of a wire, to provide the hook with arms insertable in a pocket formed by the cloth of the waist band or of the trousers, to secure the hook to the trousers by simply closing this pocket, to close this pocket, and thereby to afiix the hook, by a simple row of stitches which can be made by a sewing machine, and to eliminate all hand-sewing from the operations necessary for the application of the hook.

Still other objects and advantages will appear from the following description of an exemplifying embodiment of my invention, from the appended claim and from the accompanying drawing in which:

Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of a hook according to my invention and of a broken 01f end of a waist band, in unassembled condition.

Fig. 2 shows a view of the same waist band end, of the same hook secured thereto, and of the corresponding other end of the waist band, all these parts being seen from the inner side of the trousers, the two waist band ends which will overlap in connected condition being represented in separated condition.

Fig. 3 shows a bottom view of the parts shown in Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawing, numeral I indicates a hook made of a single, bent wire. The hook I comprises a U-shaped loop 2 which is open at the left side and two arms 3 which are considerably more spaced from each other than the legs of the loop 2. The arms 3 are positioned in a plane different from the plane of the loop 2 and about parallel to the latter plane. Each leg of the loop 2 is connected to one arm 3 by a wire portion 4 substantially extending verti- 2 cally in the sameplaneasthe loop 2,. by a wire portion Storming a continuationof-v the portion 4 and-running from theplaneof the. loop -2 to theplane of the arms .3, and by a wire portion 6. extending vertically in the plane of the arms 3, forming a continuationof the portion 5 and being continued by an arm 3.

The wire portions 5 may converge slightly toward the plane of the loop 2. The arms 3 extend preferably along two parallel sides of a rectangle and terminate in inwardly bent loops 1. The area of this rectangle is considerably broader than the loop 2.

The hook I is secured to one of the two over lapping ends of a waist band. Preferably, this end 8 is the outer of the two overlapping waist band ends. This end forms a pocket which may be made in the following manner:

The end 8 is doubled by folding an extreme portion 9 inwardly along a line I I, the upper rims I2 and I3 of the doubled end are connected by a row of stitches I4, and the corresponding lower rims are connected by a similar row of stitches I5 whereby the end 8 forms a pocket which is open at the left side. Before these stitches are made, the upper and lower rims may be folded inwardly whereby the stitches will pass through doubled rims, and the upper and lower edges will show a neat appearance. The original strip of cloth of which the pocket is made may comprise two layers I6 and I! connected by a folding line or edge I8 whereby the layers I6 and I! are parts of an originally single strip of cloth, and each pocket wall comprises two layers.

The arms 3 of the hook I together with the hook portions 6 are inserted in this pocket by shifting the hook in the direction of the arrow I9 in Fig. 1. In this shifted position, the loop 2 is positioned outside of the pocket at a small distance from the inner side of the end 8, and the hook portions 5 are pressed into the edge I8, this edge giving way to form small recesses 2 for the passage of the portions 5.

Then, the pocket is closed by a vertical row of stitches 22 sewn through the edge l8 and the adjacent other wall of the pocket. Thereby, the hook I is permanently secured to the end 8.

The other end 23 of the waist band is provided with a button 24 which is connected to the cloth constituting the waist band by a neck 25 which may be formed in well known manner of sewing threads. In order to close the trousers or the waist band, the end 23 is moved to the left side as far as necessary for introduction of the neck 25 in the loop 2. While the neck enters 3 the loop, the button 24 enters the narrow space between the loop 2 and the end 8.

In order to open the waist band, the button 24 or the end 23 are moved from the closing position to the left side until the button 24 is free from engagement with the hook I.

I desire it understood that my invention is not confined to the particular embodiment shown and described, the same being merely illustrative, and that my invention may be carried out in other ways without departing from the spirit of my invention as it is obvious that the particular embodiment shown and described is only one of the many that may be employed to attain the objects of my invention.

Having described the nature of my invention, what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

A closure for trousers or the like, comprising a waist band having a doubled end terminating in a folding line, and having another end overlapping said first end in closed position, a hook having a U-shaped loop with two legs positioned, in closed position, between said waist-band ends, said hook further having two arms positioned in said doubled end, and having connections between said legs and said arms, said arms being spaced apart more than said legs and being positioned in a plane different from the plane of said legs, said arms and legs extending from said connections toward said folding line, said loop opening in the direction from said folding line, and a button positioned at that side of said other waist band end which faces said first end, said button having a neck made of threads, connecting said button with said other waist band end and fitting the inner space of said loop, said button being broader than the space between said legs and being narrower than the space between said arms.
