STATES" PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
This invention relates to posture correcting devices of the type used in combination with headwear, and in particular a small channel shaped casing having a roller therein in which the casing may be positioned under a hat brim with an open end thereof adjacent the surface of the head of a wearer of the hat wherein the correct posture is indicated by the position of the roller.
The purpose of this invention is to provide a posture indicating device that may readily be attached to a hat and that may readily be removed therefrom so that it may be used as desired. v 7
Various devices have been used for correcting the posture, such as carrying books and other objects on the head, but these are not secured in position and may fall to the floor. With this thought in mind this invention contemplates a small unique article having an indicator therein Q an inconspicuous position so that it may be used on the street.
Another object of the invention is to provide a posture indicating device that may be worn continuously and only used as desired.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device for indicating the correct posture that may be removably attached to a hat which is of a simple and economical construction.
With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists of the new and novel combination, construction, and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more fully described, set forth in the claims appended hereto, and disclosed in the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view illustrating the posture indicator with a pin thereon by which it may be attached to a hat or the like.
Figure 2 is a similar view with part broken away and shown in section showing a roller therein, being taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure3 is a cross section through the posture indicator, taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a view illustrating the device at- 2 tached to the brim of a lady's hat, showing the roller therein in the position of indicating that the posture is incorrect, and with part of the hat broken away.
Figure 5 is a similar view showing the correct posture position of the elements.
Figure 6 is a View showing the parts in the correct posture position with the device on the brim of a hat and with part of the hat broken away.
Figure 7 is a view similar to that shown in Figure 6 with the parts in the incorrect posture position.
Figure 8 is a view similar to that shown in Figure 1 with part broken away, and illustrating a modification wherein the base of the device is provided with openings by which it may be attached to a hat by stitches or the like.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts, the posture indicating device of this invention includes a small casing it) having a roller l I therein and provided with a pin l2.
The casing is substantially rectangular-shaped having an upper panel l3 with downwardly extending sides l4 and I5, horizontally disposed shoulders l6 and H, and lower sides l8 and I9. The lower edges of the lower sides are connected by a base 20, and one end is formed with an open slot 2| having short sections 22 and 23 at the sides and the other end is closed by a panel 24.
The roller I l is mounted on a shaft 25 the ends of which roll on the shoulders l6 and I1, and the pin is attached to the upper panel !3 by a lug 26 at one end with the point held in a clasp 21, as shown in Figure 1. It will be understood that a pin or fastener of any suitable type may be used. 1
In the design shown in Figure 8, a casing 28 having a roller 29 therein is provided with an upper base or flange 3!] having openings 3! in the corners thereof. This device may be stitched to the under surface or brim of a hat as illustrated in Figures 4 to 7 inclusive.
With the parts arranged in this manner the posture indicator may be attached to a hat as illustrated with the open end or slot 2! adjacent the forehead or other part of a wearer, and as long as the head is in the correct position or the body has the correct posture the roller will touch the skin of the wearer, but as soon as the position of the body or head tilts forward the roller rolls away from the skin so that the person is warned that his posture is incorrect. The device may be hidden under a brim or part of a hat so that it may be used on the street or in formal occasions. The indicator may be attached to the hat as desired and may be removed after use, or may remain in position on the hat.
It will be understood that modifications may be made in the design and arrangement of the parts without departing fromv the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is:
l. A posture indicator comprising an elongated T-shaped casing having a hollow leg and hollow arms with shoulders therein forming the under surfaces of the arms and spaced from the upper end of the casing, said casing having an open end, a roller positioned in the hollow leg of the casing, and having pins extended at the sides for rotatably mounting the roller in said casing with the roller positioned to extend through the open end of the casing, and stop means for retaining the pins with the roller extended through the open end of the casing.
2. In a device for indicating correct posture, an elongated T-shaped casing having a hollow leg and hollow arms with longitudinally positioned shoulders therein forming the under surfaces of the arms and having an open end, a roller having pins extending at the sides positioned between the shoulders with the pins positioned to roll on thesaid shoulders with the roller free, said roller adapted to project through the open end of the casing with the casing sloping toward the said open end, and means for attaching the easing to a. hat brim or the like whereby with the casing tilted toward the said open end the roller will engage the forehead of a wearer of the hat.
3. In a posture indicating device, the combination, which comprises, an elongated rectangularshaped casing T-shaped in cross section having laterally positioned hollow arms with a vertically disposed hollow leg, said casing having a panel closing one end and short panels closing the ends of the arms at the opposite. end providing a continuous vertically disposed opening corresponding with the leg, a transversely positioned shaft rotatably mounted in the casing with the ends there- REEEBENQE$ 3,
