Description

(ModeL) 1. v. NEWSOM.
PLOW.
Patented Nov. 1,1881.
I ma IEIIIHIIIIIIIIIIIE m, llllilll!lilllll|:l
INVENTOR I, i M4401)? A TTORNEYS.
NI'IE STATES ISAAC V. NEWSOM, OF MOUNT MEIGS, ALABAMA.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 249,079, dated November 1, 1881.
Application filetl July 7, 1881.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC V. NEwsoM, of Mount Meigs, county of Montgomery, and State of Alabama, have invented certain useful Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a specification.
Figure l is a side elevation of my improve ment, shown as applied to a plow-beam. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same, the plowbeam being shown in section. Fig. 3 is a sectional plan View taken through the line a: or, Fig.2. Fig. 4: is a sectional elevation taken through the line 1/ y, Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the catch-block.
The object of this invention is to facilitate the adjustment of plows and promote convenience in repairing them.
A represents the plow-beam.
B is the plow -standard, which is made in two parts, or is slotted longitudinally, to receive the beam A in its upper part and the plow-fastening bolt in its lower part. The standard B is hinged by a bolt, 0, at or near its middle, to a metal block, D, bolted to the lower side of the beam A, so that said standard can be adjusted to regulate the pitch of the plow.
In the upper end ofthe standard Bis formed a slot, E, to receive a bolt, F, which passes through one or another ofthe notches or crossgrooves formed to receive itin the metal block G, bolted to the top of the beam A.
The bolt F is secured in place, when in one of the notches H in the catch block G, by tightening the nut of the bolt. With this construction, by loosening the nut of the bolt F and raising the said bolt out of its notch H, the pitch of the standard B can be regulated as desired.
(Model) colterJ is secured to the mold board I by a bolt or rivet, K, and its upper part is secured in place by the bolt L, that secures the moldboard I to the standard 13.
v In the lower forward part of the mold-board I is formed a dovetailed recess, M, to receive the dovetailed tongue N, formed upon the upper edge of the point or share 0. The point or share 0 can be secured in place by a bolt, P, passing through its tongue N and through the mold-board I; ortheboltP maybe omitted and the point or share held to its place by friction. and the share 0, when worn, can be readily detached and replaced by new ones.
The mold-board I is strengthened againstlat ,eral movement by the brace or cross bar R,
the outer end of which is bolted or otherwise secured to or is formed upon the rear side of thelower partot' the mold-board I. Theouter end of the brace R is bolted to the lower end ofthe standard B.
Having thus fully described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with a plow-beam carrying a lower block, D, and an upper notched block, G, of the bifurcated standard B, straddling said beam, hinged at C to said block D, slotted near the top, and held by bolt and nut to any of the notches in block G, as and for the purpose specified.
ISAAC V. NEWSOM.
