2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Filed Aug. 9, 1946 Patented Oct. 18, 1949 UNITED STATESVPATENT OFFICE MULTIUNIT S'ITORAGE CABINET James A. Lindsay, Spokane, Wash.
Application August 9, 1946, Serial No. 689,369
(Cl. S12-148) 2 Claims.
My present invention relates to an improved multi-unit storage cabinet and is especially adapted for use in multiple unit dwellings where more than one family may have access to the locker. The structure of my invention is so designed and arranged as to permit access to locker sections individually and the locker comprises a unique combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention according to the best mode I have thus far devised, but it will be understood that various changes and alterations may be made in the exemplified structure within the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 shows the locker of my invention employing three units, one mounted upon the other.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2 showing different views in the different sections.
Fig. 4 shows the frame construction of one of the divisions into which the wedge shaped drawers are placed.
Fig. 5 is a detailed sectional view through one of the outside doors of the sections, and
Fig. 6 shows the bearings for the central shafts about which the unit rotates, and is taken on line 6 6 of Fig. 3.
Referring now to the drawings in detail I have illustrated the present embodiment of my invention as comprising an insulated drum casing 2 having a door 4 hinged as at 6 and formed with a handle 8. The locker normally comprises superimposed casings and when so used I employ a base il! and a top l2.
Between the casings are dividing partitions I4 and freezing coils I6 are positioned below the partitions. f
Upon a vertical shaft I8 journaled at 20 and 22 I fashion a tubular frame 24 journaled at 25 and from this frame extend radially braces 26 with chordal connectors 28 and vertical posts 29. The braces 30 support and position the lower arms 3i and within the triangular compartments formed between the chordal connectors 28 and the tubular frames 24 I provide drawers 32. The ring 34 encircles and retains the skeleton frame in position. Guides 36 on the drawers slide on the braces 26 to the stop 39 when the drawer is withdrawn and thus supports the rear of the drawer.
The vertical tiers of drawers are each formed with loops 31 into which the bar 40 pivoted at 42 on the center drawer engages and the bar may be secured in engaging position by padlock 44. Drawer pulls 38 facilitate the movement of the drawers.
Thus when assembled in the illustrated example, each of three families may be assigned one case in the locker and the families will have access only to their assigned drawers. The proper door is opened and the drawers may be selectively filled or emptied and when finished with a tier of drawers, the ring 34 is rotated thus rotating the skeleton frame and bringing the next tier in line with the door.
Thus a maximum of storage space is devised from a minimum of available space and where many families are assigned, each family may have a tier of drawers rather than a case.
When the drum casings are superimposed the sections are sealed with suitable material to prevent frost from passing, and the joints of the casings are secured by rings 46.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A storage device comprising a closed cylindrical casing, a center post supported in the top and bottom of the casing, a tubular post journaled on the center post, a supporting frame on the tubular post including a vertically spaced series of radially extending members, and transversely disposed end members on the radially extending members, a lower pair of radially disposed supporting members, and a connector between the outer ends thereof aligned vertically with the transverse members, vertical posts connecting the ends of the transverse members and of the connector forming rectangular openings in the frame, drawers slidable through said openings supported by said radial members, a door in the casing providing access to the drawers, clips on the drawers slidable on radial member above each drawer, and stops on the vsaid radial members to limit the outward movement of the drawers.
2. A storage device comprising a closed cylindrical casing, a center post supported in the top and bottom of the casing, a tubular post journaled on the center post, a supporting frame on the tubular post including a vertically spaced series of radially extending members, and transversely disposed end members on the radially extending members, a lower pair of radially disposed supporting members, and a connector between the outer ends thereof aligned vertically with the transverse members, vertical posts connecting the ends of the transverse members and of the connector forming rectangular openings in the frame, and brace bars connecting the outer portions of each of the lower pair of supporting members with the tubular post at the juncture of the uppermost radially extending member thereby defining the outer limits of the frame, drawers slidable through said openings and supported by said radially extending members, a door in the casing providing access to said drawers, clips` on they drawers slidable on the radial member above each drawer, and stops on the said radial members to limit the outward movement of the drawers.
