Thereafter the flame adjustment on the burner I i will remain nearly constant and also as a result of such preparatory practice the broiler chamber is brought up to an even and efficient heat level preparatory to the broiling operation.
In order to accommodate more practically the provisions of the instant improvement the broiling chamber I9 is fitted with defining side or support walls 2| and 22 and with a back wall 23, all preferably of sheet metal secured at various points as at 24 by spacers and securement bolts to principal supporting wall sections. The side supporting walls 2| and 22 are provided with trackways or ledges 25 upon which is adapted to rest the beaded edge 26 which defines the upper peripheral extremity of a broiler pan 21.
The cylindrical side wall 28 of the broiler pan 21 is indented preferably at three peripheral equally spaced positions so as to provide inwardly jutting trackways 29, 30 and 3|. These trackways are all similar in shape, proportion and disposi tion in their respective segments of the pan 21 so that the inner supporting ledges 32 afforded by the indentations of said trackways provide equilateral support to the three equiangularly spaced engagement brackets 33 carried by the broiler platform 34.
Each bracket 33, as best indicated in Fig. 3, consists of a wall segment secured as by spotwelding to the apron flange 35 of the platform 34, and a substantially U-shaped formation 36 bent at right angles to the wall segment for resting upon one of the trackway ledges 32. By rotating the platform 34 throughout substantially 120, the brackets 33 may be made to rise or descend, depending upon the direction of rotation, and since the brackets are equally spaced in correspondence with the equal spacing of the trackways 29 to 3i, horizontal level of the platform 34 is maintained.
The platform 34 may be sloped inwardly or it may have concentric undulations in order to facilitate the collection of broiling juices in minimum areas so as to be dischargeable through ornamentally arranged openings 31 situated in valley portions of said undulations.
The adjustment of the platform 34 is preferably effected in advance so that handling thereafter under heated conditions may be avoided. But slight experience in this manipulation is deemed adequate to suffice in the anticipation of predetermined adjustment, although by means of the infinite variations afforded, this adjustment may be accurately made by measuring or by observing the disposition with respect to side markings (not shown) in the broiler pan.
It is to be observed that the broiler pan may be very easily dismantled and that no sharp projections or inaccessible areas result from the provision of the described adjusting mechanism. The undulations of the platform 34 are easily accessible as are surfaces of typical culinary de- 4 vices and lend themselves to sterilizing and cleansing in keeping with high standards of sanitation.
Modification In the modification illustrated in Figs. 4 to 8, inclusive, a similar arrangement of parts is contemplated, except that the broiler pan in this modification need be but a relatively shallow instrumentality designated 5 I, Figs. 4 and 5 within which there is adapted to reside the annular footing ring 52 of a wire trackway assembly. At three equally spaced points 53, Fig. 6, there are secured as by welding, the vertical supporting posts 54 which may be of the same wire stock as that of the footing ring 52, designated 55, 56 and 51. One or more of said elements 55 to 51 is studded on its upper surface or surfaces with the indentations or notchings 58 provided for the purpose of preventing inadvertent slippage of the hooked portions 66 after effecting the broiler platform adjustment, as will be seen later.
Between one .of the track segments such as for example 51 and its related vertical supporting post 54, there is formed a thumb loop or handle 59, Fig. 6, whereby the entire assembly may be rotated within its seating pan 5!, and whereby also there may be engaged the trackway assembly relative to effecting movement of the broiler unit 6| for adjustment purposes as will now be described.
The broiler unit may be constructed of an assembly of radially extending wire rod sections, in the illustrated example, six in number, three of which are longer and designated 62 relative to the intermediate three which are shorter and designated 63. At their common intersection center these rods may be anchored as by spot-welding to a center disc 64 while to one of the rods 62 there is secured also preferably by welding a manual engagement loop 65, Figs. 5 and '1, for achieving regulation in cooperation with the aforementioned frame loop 59.
The longer rods 63 each are provided with underturned extremities or hooked portions 66, Fig. 8, one of which is slightly shorter, as designated at 61, Fig. 7, to facilitate springing over its associated track 51, while the remaining ones of which are longer as at 68, Fig. 8, to achieve relative securement with its related track segments 55. The shorter radial rods 63 extend outwardly far enough only to support the several involute surface forming spirals 69 which compositely constitute a platform comparable with the undulate surface of the platform 34, described above.
The several trackways 55, 56, and 51 are buttwelded to the vertical supporting posts 54 of the next contiguous segments as best indicated at 1| so as to provide rigidity for supporting the platform assembly 6|. By rotating the platform throughout substantially surface adjustment according to infinitely variable levels may be approximated after the manner described in the first described embodiment above, and in order to assure that each adjustment is maintained, the encircling loops 66 of the spider rods 63 may be permitted to reside within the indentations 58 already mentioned.
In order to dismantle this embodiment of the invention it is but necessary to spring the shortest one 61 of the three hooked portions 61-53, Fig. '1, over its related track wire 51, whereupon the remaining hooked portions 58 may be simply unhooked and the platform withdrawn.
Since the entire assembly is constituted of round wire stock, contacting surfaces are minimum and accessibility for cleansing is afforded to an appreciably greater extent than in the cases of heretofore known practice.
While the present invention has been illustrated and described with reference to specific contemplaticns of embodiment it is to be understood, nevertheless, that numerous variations and modifications may be invoked without departing from the essential spirit or scope thereof. It is intended accordingly not to be limited by any of the detailed illustrations in the accompanying drawings nor by the particular language employed in the foregoing description, except as indicated in the hereunto appended claims.
The invention claimed is:
1. In combination with a broiler burner, a principal supporting apparatus comprising a circular grid assembled of a series of radial rods certain ones of which are provided with extreme trackway engaging hooks, a system of involute grid elements in planar alignment secured to said radial rods in spaced relation each to each, a framework for supporting said apparatus comprising a footing ring, a series of wire trackways including vertical members welded to said footing ring, a drip pan within which said footing ring is adapted to rest, and manipulation means associated with said framework and with said platform whereby said platform may be rotated with respect to said framework and said engaging hooks made to ascend or descend upon their said trackways for producing variations in elevation adjustment.
2. In combination, a grid for boilers formed of a plurality of radial rods arranged in a plane, certain ones of which are provided at their outer extremities with trackway engaging means, a series of involute grid elements secured to said radial rods in spaced relation to each other, a framework for supporting said platform compris ing a series of wire trackways, vertical members for supporting said trackways, manipulation means associated with said framework and with said platform whereby said platform may be rotated with respect to said framework to ascend and descend upon their said trackways for effecting variations in elevation adjustment,
'3. In a broiler apparatus, a circular grid fabrication of wire having three equiangularly spaced radial members, extremities on said members doubled over to form open hooks, a supporting framework of wire comprising a footing ring and three complementary spiral trackways at least one of which is provided with surface notchings, said hook formations adapted to be sprung each over one of said trackways, for riding the length of said trackways concurrently and means for rotating said grid with respect to said framework whereby said hooks are disposed at corresponding levels on respective ones of said trackways.
4. In a circular grid for food preparation, a supporting spider comprising a plurality of radially extending rods arranged in planar alignment, a series of circumferentially spaced involute rods supported on said radially extending rods and welded thereto at various contacting intersections therewith, certain of said radially extending rods being formed at their outward extremities with downwardly bent hook portions, and a plurality of circumferential supports engageable by said hook portions and having, concentric with said circular grid, rod trackways of varying elevation whereby to afford through rotational placement of said grid elevational adjustment thereto.
