This invention is illustrated in the accom panying drawings, in which Figure l represents a longitudinal vertical section. Fig. 2 is a plan or top view, omitting the reservoir and its concomitants. Fig. 3 is a side view. Fig. 4 is a like view, looking` in an opposite direction to Fig. 3. Fig-.5 is a detail view of the griper. Fig. ti is a plan or top view ofthe bucket-wheel.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts. The letter A designates the endless sheetcarrier, composed in this example of an indiarubber apron, and supported by rollers B, the same having also combined therewith a cleaning-brush, B. Above this sheet-carrier islocatedv an endless griper-carrier, C, composed of two chains, which are connected together by a traverse, D, forming the griper, and supported by chain-wheels E. This griper D is a strip of sheet metal bent over bars a, Fig. 5, constituting pivots of the carrier-chains C, to a zigzag shape, and it is so arranged relatively to the'sheetcarrier A as to come in contact therewith in the movements of the carriersthat is to say, the bights of the strip between the bars are brought in contact with the face of the sheet-carrier. The griperfl), however, can also be made Hat, orvofl anyother desired shape, and, if'deemed expedient, additional gripers may be used, while the griper-carrier, moreover, may be formed otbands or an apron.

The brushes H have a revolving motion and brushes I a laterally-reeiprocating motion, and in' practice the brushes, as well as the rollers B F G, are made adj nstable.
Below the upper or working portion ot` the sheet-carrier A is located a bed or support, J, and at a point opposite tol each ot' the brushes H l in this bed are cavities b, or openings, leaving the she-etcarrier unsupported at those points, so that it is adapted to yield to the brushes, this being due also to the nature of the material composing the carrier. Next to the receiving-roller F, above the sheetcarifier A, is located a bronze-hopper, K, which has a verticalIy-reciproeating motion, but may also be let't stationary, and which is supplied with bronze-powder from a reservoir, L, as hereinafter more fully described.
The sheet to be bronzedisinserted between the receiving-roller F and the sheet-carrier A- namely, when the griper I) reaches approximately that point-and the leading end of the sheet is seized bythe griper, thus sharing the motion of the carriers, so that the printed face ofthe sheet is tirst covered with bronze dropping from the hopper K, then subjected to the action ot the distribnting-brushes H I, and finally discharged by the delivery roller G as it is released by the griper.
The operative parts ot' the machine are inclosed in a box, N, having a drawer, O, in the Abottom thereof', serving to catch the surplus IOO that its buckets ma-y empty over the edge thereof, and the toothed segment S is placed in such a position that when the buckets Q are reversed by its means they are above the bronze-hopper K, thus emptying into the latter. The buckets Q, however, can also be left stationary on the wheel. The toothed segment Sis a fixture of the machine-frame.
Motion is given to the revolving brushes H by a belt, T, (see Fig. 4,) from the shaft B of one of the sheet-carrier rollers, this shaft containing also a driving-pulley, U, While motion is imparted to the laterall yf-reciprocatin g brushes I by a lever, V, connected to the pitman of an eccentric, IV, the latter being placed loosely on the shaft F of the sheet-receiving roller, and being geared with the shaft B ofthe adjacent sheet-carrier roller by cog-Wheels g. (Best seen in Fig. 3.) The reciprocating brushes I are guided iu their motions by means of rods o. The shaft B transmits motion to the shaft I1" by cog-wheels h, and it also carries trip-Wheels fi, one at each end, acting on slide-rods j, which are bifurcated at the upper end for the reception ot' gudgeons l, projecting from the bronzehopper K, so that the latter receives its motion from that source. The bucket-wheel P receives its motion from an eccentric, X, on the shaft F ofthe sheet-receiving roller through a pawl, yn., which is pivoted to the pitxnan of such eccentric, and acts on a ratchetwheel,Y, lixed to the bucket-wheel shaft. Any other suitable driving mechanism, however, may be substituted for that described without departure from my invention.
'The hopper K is a bronze-feeder', and in lieu thereof I can use a roller covered with fur or other similar material, or a chute, or any other of the devices generally employed for a similar purpose.
V'Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, substantially as hereinbefore described, of the endless sheet-carrier andthe endless griper-carrier having its griper arranged to be brought into superficial contact with the sheet-carrier.
2. The combination, substantially as hereinbel'ore set forth, of the endless sheet-carrier, the endless griper-carrier having its griper arranged to come in contact with the sheet-carrier, and the bronze-distributing devices co operating with the sheet-carrier.
3. The combination, substantially as hereinbefore set forth, of the endless sheet-carrier, the endless griper-carrier having its griper arranged to come in contact with the sheet-carrier, the bronze-feeder, and the bronze-distributin g devices cooperating with the sheetcarrier,
4. The combination, substantially as hereinbefore set forth, of the endless sheet-carrier, the endless griper-carrier having its griper arranged to come in contact with the sheet-carrier, andthe sheet-receivingroller.
5. The combination, substantially as hereinbefore set forth, of the endless sheet-carrier, the endless griper-carrier having its griper arranged to come in contact with the sheet-carrier, and the sheet-delivery roller.
G. The combination, substantially as hereinbefore set forth, of the endless sheet-carrier, the endless griper-carrier having its griper arranged. to come in contact with the sheet-carrier, the sheet-receiving roller, and the sheetdelivery roller.
7. The combination, substantially as hereinbefore set forth, of the endless sheet-carrier, the endless griper-carrier having its griper arranged to come in contact with the sheet-carrier, the bronze-h opper, thebronze-distributing devices, the sheetreceiving roller, and the sheet-delivery roller.
8. The combination, substantially as hereinbefore set forth, of the endless sheet-carrier, composed ofan india-rubber apron, the bronze distributing brushes arranged in superficial contact with the sheet-carrier, and the bed or support for the upper portion of the sheet-carrier, having cavities or openings opposite to the brushes, allowing the sheet-carrier to yield thereto.
9. rIhe combination, substantially as hereinbelore setforth, ofthe sheet-carrier, the bronzefeeder arranged above the sheet-carrier, the bronze-reservoir, and the revolving bucketwheel of the bronze-reservoir, having its buckets arranged to supply the bronze-feeder.
l0. The combination,substantially ashereinbefore set forth, of the sheet-carrier, the bronzefeeder arranged above the sheet-carrier, the bronze-reservoir', the revolving bucket-wheel of the bronze-reservoir, having its buckets hung and weighted to assume au upright position, the pinions fixed to the shafts of the buckets, respectively, and the fixed toothed segment engaging' the pinions successively for reversing and emptying the buckets at a point above the bronze-feeder.
