My invention relates to a toilet article for dressing the hair and provides a hair curl holder pin for positioning the hair in ringlet form. Particularly, the invention relates to a curl holder pin which may be used advantageously to grip various sized ringlets of hair. Further the invention relates to a curl holder pin which the user may apply to its curl holding position with but one hand, freeing the other hand for manipulation of the hair.

The invention has for an object to provide an efficient curl holding device so completely encompassing the curl ringlet and retaining the same in position as to eliminate the need for the number of pins normally used in setting the hair. It has been observed that in order to prevent a hair ringlet from slipping out of its curled position, two or three hairpins of the well known construction must be carefully inserted into each curl.

My predecessors in this art of providing a single curl holder pin utilize an article having a plurality of arms which radiate from a common center, each of which is provided with end hooks purposed to engage the curl peripheral portions only. Devices of this character have limited adaptability in that the length of the arms positively determines the size of the ringlet that may be held. Thus, in order to cope with ringlets of various sizes a kit of various sized pins is required. These prior art devices are further of limited efficiency because they engage only one face of the curl, except that the hooked ends may slightly overlap the otherwise free other face.

My invention is a considerable improvement over such prior art devices in that it is capable of holding curl ringlets of a great variety of sizes and has provision for clasping both faces of the curl ringlet.

My invention, therefore, has for a particular object to provide a hair curl holder pin formed of wire and bent to have a substantially diamond shaped web portion positioned by and with respect to the hair engaging legs and other parts of the pin so that the hair curl may be located between the legs and the web and so that the web extends substantially across the whole face of the ringlet to press the ringlet between the web and legs. Consequently only a single hair curl holder pin of the character proposed by my invention is required to position each ringlet. The advantages of time and savings to the user gained thereby will be readily apparent.

A further particular object of my invention is to provide a hair curl holder pin which prevents ing ringletaas each'curl is positioned.

My invention has for a further particular object to provide a hair curl holder pin that can be used advantageously in connection with any size ringlet usually employed in setting the hair. The contouring of the web provides for the firm retention of a relatively small or large curl.

The invention consists in other features and advantages which will appear from the following description and upon examination of the drawings. Structures containing the invention may partake of different forms and still embody the invention. To illustrate a practical application of the invention, I have selected a hair curl holder pin as an example of the various structures and details thereof that contain the invention and shall describe the selected structure hereinafter, it being understood that variations may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention. The particular structure selected is shown in the accompanying drawing and described hereinafter.

Fig. I of the drawings illustrates a plan view of the hair curl holder pin embodying the features of my invention. Fig. 11 is a side elevational view of the hair curl holder pin. Fig. III illustrates somewhat diagrammatically the operation and final position of the curl holder pin relative to a ringlet of hair.

The particular embodiment of the curl holder pin shown in the accompanying drawing is preferably formed of a single strand of resilient wire, bent to have leg members i and 2 with splayed end portions 3 and 4 integral therewith. Preferably the leg members each have crenated sections 1 and 8 intermediate their ends which provide means for gripping the ringlet more firmly and preventing dislodgment of the ringlet, as will appear more clearly hereinafter. The ends of the legs I and 2 opposite to the splayed portions 3 and 4 are brought into engagement with one another and twisted to form a depending shank 9. The shank 9 extends between and in substantially parallel and equally spaced relation to the legs and is bent slightly outwardly from the plane common to the legs to provide space between the shank and legs.

Extending from the shank 9 is a loop of wire bent to form a substantially diamond shaped web 12 having U-shaped points I3, 14 and I5 and connecting stretchers l1, l8, l9 and 20. The stretchers l1 and I8 extend from shank 9 and are curvedly bent toward the plane of the legs to locate the points {3 and M in near registration with the plane of the legs I and -2 as shown in Fig. II of the drawings. Stretcher 19 joints the points I4 and I5 and stretcher 20 the points 13 r and I5.
