Description
y 1949- J. F. CZERNIEWICZ 2,472,004
SHELF Filed Feb. 2, 1946 ATTORNEY Patented May 31, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to shelves in general and more especially to shelves which may be secured in place by means of adhesive strips and the like.
Among the objects of the present invention it is aimed to provide an improved shelf including a platform and adhesive strips whereby the shelves may with facility be secured in place without the use of tools and the like.
More specifically, it is an object of the present invention to provide an improved combination including adhesive strips and shelving material, the strips of which are in part adhesively secured to the shelving material and in part to a supporting wall surface.
These and other features, capabilities and advantages of the invention will appear from the subjoined detail description of specific embodiments thereof illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a plan of one embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a perspective showing shelves made according to the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 1 and secured in place.
Fig. 3 is a plan of a second embodiment.
Fig. 4 is a perspective of a third embodiment secured in place.
Fig. 5 is a. plan of the shelf shown in Fig. 4 spread out before being secured in place.
Fig. 6 is a section on the line fi6 of Fig. 1.
In Figs. 1, 2 and 6 the embodiment shown consists essentially of a platform I composed of any suitable material such as cardboard, Beaverboard, Masonite or the like, somewhat L shape in outline in the interest of appearance to produce platforms adjacent to the meeting walls of the corner of a kitchen cabinet, dish closet, or the like.
On the opposite faces of the platform I, adjacent the edges 2 and 3 thereof, there are secured the strips of adhesive material l, 5, and 6, l. A part of each adhesive strip is secured to one face of the platform I and the other part to the supporting Wall, see Fig. 6, where the flange 8 of the strip 6 is secured to the upper face of the platform and the flange 9 in alinement with the flange 8 as shown in full lines in Fig. 6 before being bent up at right angles into the dash and dot line position shown in Fig. 6 in which latter position it is adhesively secured to the supporting wall 19 shown in Fig. 2. See also the flange ll of the strip 7 which is adhesively secured to the face ll! of the platform I, and the flange l3 in alinement with the flange I, as shown in full lines in Fig. 6 before being bent down at right angles into the dash and dot line position shown in Fig. 6, in
which latter position it is adhesively secured to the supporting wall In shown in Fig. 2.
The embodiment shown in Fig. 3 differs primarily from the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 in that the platform 14 is substantially triangular in outline.
The embodiments shown in Figs. 4 and 5 difiers primarily from the embodiments in Figs. 1 and 3 in that it illustrates how advantage may be taken of the present invention to secure a shelf to a single upright wall instead of two meeting Walls forming a corner as illustrated in Fig. 2.
In the embodiment shown in Figs. 4 and 5 the platform It has at least two flanges, such as the flanges It and H. In the present instance, in the interest of a pleasing effect, the platform [5 is also provided With a third flange l8. The flange i3 is turned down at right angles to the platform l5 just as is the case with the flanges I6 and H. To the rear of the platform proper [5, there are secured two adhesive strips, the strip IS in part secured to the upper face of the platform l5, and the other strip, not shown, in part secured to the lower face of the platform l5. To the rear edge of the outer face of the flanges l6 and I! there are secured in part the adhesive strips '26 and 21, respectively. To the rear edge and the inner face of each of the flanges l6 and ii, there are secured in part similar adhesive strips not shown. The other parts of the adhesive strips are secured to the supporting wall in the manner illustrated in Fig. 2.
In some instances, particularly with the emsediment shown in Figs. 4 and 5, only one set of adhesive strips may be used, as for instance the strips l9, 2i! and 2|, and the strips on the lower face of the platform l5 and on the inner faces of the flanges It and I1 dispensed with.
While excellent results have been achieved with the location of the adhesive strips as illustrated, it is, of course obvious that some of these strips may be dispensed with without departing from the general spirit of the invention.
It is obvious, furthermore, that various changes and modifications may be made to the details of the embodiments illustrated without departing from the general spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claim.
I claim:
