MOP-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 246,685, dated September 6, 1881.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH H. 0Mo,.ot' Blissfield, in the county of Lenawee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings,which form a partof this specification.

lhe object of this invention is to produce a mop-holder which can be manipulated so as to twist the mop-rag for the purpose of wringing out the water therefrom.

Figure l is a front view of the mop-holder with the mop-rag detached. Fig. 2 is a like view with the mop-rag attached and twisted.

A indicates an oblong rectangular metal frame, provided with arms B B, that are secured to a sleeve, (J. The handle D passes through this sleeve, and also through eyes E E, with which the frame A is provided.

F indicates the mop-rag, the ends of which are held between the outer long bar, a, of the metal frame and a crossbar, G, by means of screws H H passing through eyes I I of the metal frame and through the mop-rag and into The ends of this cross-bar have notches, which receive the end bars, a, of the metal frame, and theseveral eyes of said frame are preferably formed by forming coils in the rod or wire which composes the frame. The handle passes through the cross-bar G, and at its end which comes between the sides of the mop-rag beyond the holder it is provided with a cross-bar, K.

To use the mop, the handle will be drawn back through the frame until its cross-bar K comes against the bar a of the frame, and it will be held in this position by means of a spring, L, arranged upon the handle to engage the slidable sleeve. To twist the mop-rag so as to wring out the water, the operator will depress the spring so as to disengage the same from the sleeve, and then, holding the sleeve byone hand and the handle by the other, push the handle forward until its cross-bar K presses against the inner side of the rag at the outer end thereof, after which, by turning the haudie and at the same time slowly drawing it back, the mop-rag will be twisted around the end of the handle, as shown in Fig. 2, and the water effectively wrung out of the mop-rag.

hat I claim as my invention is As an improvement in mop-holders, the combination of frame A, formed with eyes E E I I and arms B B, having sleeve C,witl1 the sliding handle D, having spring L, the sliding cross-piece G, and screws H, for securing the latter to the frame A, as herein described,for the purpose shown and specified.
