Description

March 29, 1949.
A. F. COPERSITO ET AL 2,465,850
ELECTRIC HEATER Filed April 5, 1946 3 plates having polished inner surfaces and a configuration substantially that of an isosceles triangle the intersections of the shorter legs of which have been cut oil. The shorter sides of saidsidewsllsareturnedoverattheiredges to form right-angled flanges 21 which are received snugly and frictionally held within the grooves 21 at the ends of the inclined outwardly flaring walls It and Ill. The longer and exposed edge of each of said side walls is bent over on itself as indicated at ii to eliminate see.
A rear plate spaced from and parallel to the supporting plate ill is indicated at II. It is provided with upper and lower forwardly extending right-angled flanges an engaging beneath and interfitting with the houses I! of the supportin plate it. The rear plate is also provided with end flanges ll extending forwardly intermediate the locking flanges it and the side walls or plates 28 hereinbefore described. Said rear wall or plate 29 is provided with an opening. as shown. for receiving the fitting II and also with a. series of louvres or ventilating openings 12'. The supporting plate with its reerwardiy extending flanges and the rear plate with its forwardly extending flanges produce a cooling chamber for the fitting H which is apt to become electrically heated to a high degree when the device is in operation. A sheet of asbestos or other heat-resistant material it may be provided and which closely engages the rear side of the supporting plate Ill within the cooling chamber and has the function of preventing heat generated by the coils i5 and absorbed by the supporting plate from being radiated reerwardiy.
For detachebly locking and preventing disconnection of the parts which are held together frictions-liar. bolts 84 carrying winsed nuts it are rovided. Bold bolts extend through the vertical arms of a bracket 88 and through the side wells 28, end flanges fl and locking flanges it previously described. The bolts 24 may also carry compression springs. which bear against the arms of the bracket and against the side walls or plates 26 for imparting rigidity to the looking or clamping mechanism and to assist in holding the device in the desired adjusted position.
The bracket 36 may be detsobabiy bolted or otherwise fastened to a stand or support 88 of any suitable material by the bolt and not connection 38. Detachable and protective grilles or screens to are also provided and the upper and lower ends of which engage behind the hook or catch members 23 oi the upper and lower inclined walls is and 28. Preferably none of the parts described exceeds in length or width the length or width of the stand or support 88 so that for convenience of shippin they all may be stacked or piled thereon with facility. Obm viously. also, instead of belng used as a. heater. the device may be conveniently employed as a sun-ray lamp or a conventional illuminating or fluorescent lamp by substituting the proper bulbs or tubes for the cores l4 and heating coils ll. 65
The stand 88 also may be attached to any canvenientmemberestbewalloreeilingof room.
The invention claimed is:
Llhadevice ofthecharscter described sheet metal support having opposed edges turned over on themselves to form grooves, flanges e'xtending forwardly from said support, an electrleally es device carried by said support, sheet-metal upper and lower inclined walls eeohflangedstoneofthelongitudlnaledges thereof. said flanges entering vand frlcticnolly held within said grooves and the, ends of sold inclined wells being turned over on themselves to form grooves, sheet metal side walls emw ed with flanges entering and frictionally held within the grooves in said inclined wells and locking means extending through said side walls andtheforwardlrextendingflsngesofsaidsdpport for preventing relative movement of the aforesaid parts fricticnelly held together.
2. In a device of the character described. I. support. an electrical fitting carried thereby, an electrically energizible device connected to said flttlng, forwardly extending flanges on said support. a box-like-structure enga i g sa d s p and receiving said fitting and having ventllatins:
openings in a. wall thereof, said box-like structure and support providing a. cooling chamber for said fitting, locking flanges on said box-like structure, upper and lower wells flaring outwsrdly from said support and provided with e portions detachably ,and frlctionally held to cooperating elements on said support. side walls having edge portions detachably and frictional; held to cooperating elements on said upper and lower walls. said support, upper and lower wells and-side walls together forming a knock-down reflecting enclosure housing said enere'ilible device and open only forwardly of said energildble device and locking means extending through said side walls. forwardly attending flanges and looking flanges for preventing disconnecuon of'seid upper and lower walls from said supp r seid sidewellsfromseidupperandlowerwsllsend for holding said box-like structure in engagement with said support.
