3 Claims. (Cl. 280-35) This invention relates to a portable general having means for transporting the bag when loaded over pavement.
The principal object of the invention is theprovision of a bag of the indicated character to make it easy for a person to convey or tote Various articles from one place to another.
Also, in accordance with the'invention, the bag, provided with a traction unit, may be rolled or folded when empty to be carried about conveniently. The traction unit is applicatble to the bottom of the bag in such manner that the bag, in the event it becomes torn, may be easily replaced. The bag may be used by shoppers in purchasing and transporting articles of merchandise. Workmen may use the bag to keep tools therein and to move them about on the job. The bag besides being provided with a traction unit will have the bottom thereof reinforced, thereby prolonging the life of the bag.
The nature of the invention and its distinguishing features and advantages will appear when the following specification is read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in Which- Fig. l is a perspective view of a bag equipped in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional View, the sect on being taken as indicated by the line 33 of Fig. 4
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fi 3.

traction unit H l2 on the bag, and/or means parts of the traction unit ll serve or toting the bag.
It is to be understood that the bag H3 may be made of stout or canvas, and the bag may be of any size. When made of paper the bag will have the usual side creases so that the bag may flat condition for further folding or rolling about the traction unit into compact condition to be carried about when the bag is empty. In case the bag is made of canvas it need not be creased since it easily may be rolled in the manner and for the purpose stated.
The traction unit I l comprises an oblong platform 14 and traction rollers 15 carried by casters l6 secured in any suitable manner to the platfor carrying form hi on the underside. Four casters are provided in the present instance, there being one at each corner of the platform. This platform may be made of metal, 'WOOd, fiber board or any other suitable material. Slotted extension plates H are slidable on'the platform 14 for bags of different sizes.
The traction unit H is detachably secured to the bottom it of the bag by means of screw eyes, cross-head screw bolts or other analogous elements l9, screwed into the casters l6 and the platform I l, and extending upwardly through the plates l1, bottom l8 and an oblong clamping plate 20, there being slots 2| in the plates H which register with oblong holes in the bottom l8 and plate 20 for that purpose. The plate 20 is arranged inside the bag upon the bottom It, after which the elements l9 extending upwardly through the holes are given a quarter turn to keep the plate 2E3 in place with the bottom l8 clamped between the plates H on the platform 15 and the be made of metal, wood, cardboard or the like. It will be appreciated that the platform l4 and the plates ii and 2G reinforce the bottom l8 of the bag.
If desired, an oblong piece 22 of corrugated cardboard may be laid upon the plate 20 to cover the heads of the elements l9 to protect the body of the bag when it is rolled about the platform Hi and its rollers l5.
The means l2 consist of cord handles secured to the open end The means l3 consist of loops of flexible strand material such as nylon secured to the platform M at opposite sides thereof. The handles l2 may be used for light loads. The loops l3 being secured to the platform It take the strain oil the bag if! and may be used for toting the bag when it is filled with heavy articles or tools. These handles and loops serve for suspending the bag in a case where the bag is used by a workman, to hold his tools up off the floor. A slidable holder 23 on the underside of the platform l4 may be slid to extend laterally outward, as shown in Fig. 1, for the purpose of supporting one or more tools when not in use, but readily accessible.
The securing elements l9 remain with the traction unit H. The bag as manufactured may have the necessary holes in. the flat bottom thereof to correspond with the elements l9. or the user may easily cut the holes in the bottom of a conventional bag.
To replace a bag, the protecting piece 22 is first removed. the elements i9 is given a quarter turn. Next moved from the bag, after which the traction clamping pressure on the plate which in turn unit may be readily separated from the bag. By clamps the bag bottom against the platform, reversing these operations the traction unit may thereby securing the bag to the unit.
