Description
March 29, 1949.
H. l. Kll-LAM TUMBLING TOY Filed Sept, 2l, 1945 [Hiwit/1r Henry [Som /'Ham N @my Patented Mar. 29, 1949 UNITED STATES @TENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
My invention relates to toys and has for an object to provide a toy object and means whereby the same may be catapulted into the air and caught upon the catapult.
Another object of the invention is to provide a catapult adapted to bundle up a figure toy and catch the same upon return thereof.
A further object of the invention is to provide a fabric catapult having means for causing the same to sway or sag to form a well from which a gure toy may be catapulted and caused to tumble in its iiight and within which the toy may be caught upon returning by gravity.
Other yfeatures and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a plan View of my toy,
Figure 2 is an edge view thereof, and
Figure 3 is a detail perspective view of one member of the toy.
In the accompanying drawings as above enumerated and in the following specication, like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout and in which I0, indicates my invention which consists of a preferably square piece of cloth II, or other flexible material, tubes I2 and I3 being formed in its sides i4 and I5, said tubes being slightly shorter than the body of the said material II, whereby when the rigid elongated holder members |6 and Il, are secured to the edges I8 and I9 of the cloth II by cords 33 laced through the edges I8 and I9 and through a linear series of apertures 34 in each of the holders I6 and I'I, a dip or sump is formed in the center of the saidmaterial II, as indicated in dotted lines 2l), in Figure 2 of the drawings. Threaded through the tubes I2 and I3, are elastic members 2l and 22, the terminals 23 and 24 of which are connected to the ends 25 and 26, 21 and 28, respectively, o f the said rigid holders I6 and I'I. The latter members are provided with handholds 29 and 30, by means of which the device may be operated.
In connection with the above described catapulting member 3|, I provide a ligure toy 32, which is adapted to be placed in said sump 20, after which the operator suddenly draws the handles 29 and 30, apart with suicient force to catapult the said figure into the air. The object of this toy is to determine how many times the operator can throw the toy into the air and catch it without missing and also to see how high the figure may be shot upward and caught upon its return. The above described toy also provides for a game which may be played by a number of children, the object being to see which one can cast and catch his gure without missing the catch, the last one failing to miss winning thev game.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details and parts such as come within the purview of the invention claimed may be resorted to, in actual practice, if desired.
Having now described my invention that which I claim as new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
1. Game apparatus comprising a sheet of flexible material, rigid elongated holders each having a linear series of apertures and substantially coextensive with said ends, cords laced through said apertures and through the ends of said sheet, tubes in the sides of said sheet, a pair of elastic members extending through said tubes and terminally connected to said elongated holders, said holders having hand grips, said elastic members when not stretched being of a length less than the length of said sheet.
2. Game apparatus comprising a sheet of iiexible material, rigid elongated holders each having a linear series of apertures and substantially coextensive with said ends, cords laced through said apertures and through the ends of said sheet, tubes in the sides of said sheet, a pair of elastic members extending through said tubes and terminally connected to said elongated holders, said holders having hand grips, said elastic members when not stretched being of a length less than the length of said sheet, said tubes being shorter than the body portion of said material between said hand grips, so that a sump is formed in said material when said elastic members are not stretched.
