(cl. 24-z45l 4 Claims.
This invention relates to garment supporters of the button tab type and the same has particular reference to a supporter of said character having improved means for connecting the button tab with the supporting loop.
The invention comprehends a garment supporter of thev indicated -character having an attaching element for connecting the tab with the supporting loop which is so constructed and connected with the loop as to provide smooth opposite faces substantially ilush with the opposite face of the'loop and which avoids irregularities and proj ections which might catch inrclothing or provide means for irritating the wearer.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an attaching element of said character which may bewconveniently and expeditiously assembled with and secured to the loop solas to minimize the cost of manufacture of the supporter.
'Still another object of the invention is the provision lof an attaching element land supporting loop having interengageable means for connecting the element in bridging relation between 'opposite sidesof the loop for securely and rigidly holding the element in position.
*A further object of the inventionis the'provision of means for retaining the attaching element and supporting loop in connected engagement. l
With the foregoing and other objects in view, reference is now made to the following specification and -accompanying drawings in which the preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated. f l. i i i f In the drawings: i Y Fig. 1 is a view in elevation of a garment supporter constructed in accordance with the invention. l I
Fig. 2 is a side view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken approximately on line 3-3 of Fig. l.
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken approximately on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged perspective view of the attaching element before being bent into engagement with the loop member. t
Fig. 6 is an enlarged fragmentary front view of the loop member.
Fig. '7 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view similar to Fig. 4 showing one end -of the atta-ching element in engagement with the loop member.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, the garment supporter consists of a loop member I0, a button tab II and an attaching 2 element I2 connecting the button tab with the loop member.
The loop member Ill is formed as a stamping from sheet material and comprises a contracted lower button receiving loop portion I 3 having parallel opposite sides I4 which curve outwardly above said button receivingl portion so as to form an enlarged substantially circular portion I5 for receiving the head 3| of the 'button tab together with a portion of the garment (not shown) to be supported for engagement in the loop portion I3.
The loop member I0 also includes an uppermost cross bar IB for attachment to a garment loop A indicated in -dotted outline or other means for supporting the sam-e and between saiduppermost cross bar and the enlarged portion I5, the loop member II) includes an intermediate portion II having substantially straight opposite sides I8 which are connected at their upper ends bya transversely extending cross bar I9. The cross bar I 9 and the uppermost cross bar I6 have inwardly extending arcuate inner edges 2D and 2| providing a constricted space therebetween for frictionally retaining the garment loop A therein. The uppermost cross bar I6 is provided with a downwardly and inwardly curved free terminal 22 located below the inner arcuate edge 20 of the cross bar I 9 and narrowly spaced from said cross bar' at the outer end thereof so as Ito provide a const-ricted entrance for inserting the garment loop A into the constricted space between the cross bars Iii-and I9.
Theopp'osite sides I8 of the intermediate por` tion I 'I are widened substantially medially thereof, the widened portions being provided with oppo'sitely disposed notches 23 opening through the inner `edges thereof for receiving therein the tongues 24 of the attaching element i2 with the free ends of the tongues bent outwardly into clamping relation overthe inner faces of the sides I8 and with the wall 25 1of the attaching element engaging at its ends 32 against the outer faces 0f the widened portions'thereof for rigidly securing the attaching element in bri-dging relation betweenl the sides I8. `The tongues 24 are formed integrally with and project outwardly from the opposite ends of the wall 25 which is also provided with a ange or rim 26 connected with the lower edge thereof and with a wall 21 connected 'therewith along the upper edge thereof. The wall 21 is bent into -adjacent parallel relation with the wall 25 and the same is provided with an inwardly curved outer edge 28 which is clamped against the under side of the wall 25 with the end of the ybutton tab secured therebetween.
The clamping action between the attaching element I2 and the loop member Il) is effected by the tongues 24 extending through the notches 23 with the outer ends 34 thereof bent over the inner faces of the sides I8 of the loop member and by the overlapping abutting relationship of the outer ends of the wall 25 adjacent the tongues 24 with the outer faces of the sides I8 of the loop member.
In order to retain the tongues 24 in the notches 23, the wall 21 is` provided with projections 29 at the opposite ends thereof which extend laterally into overlying relation with the outer ends of the notches and into abutting relation with the tongues. In addition thereto, the outer bent f ends of the tongues are compressed into the surl face of the sides I8 forming depressions-3l-in= whic the bent ends of the tonguesengage so as to provide a substantially smooth connection with the loop member.
As illustrated, the end of the tab engages over L,
the edge ofy the rim ZB'and-.under the inwardly curved edge 28 of the wall 2'I with the extreme end-` ofthe tab located between-.the top` and bottom-walls. Adjacent'the connection with the attachingf element I2 thetab-extends forwardly into ,covering-relation with the upper wall thereof and then passes between the attaching `element andfthe crossbar I9 Awith the button-3l secured to the-free end ofthe tab disposed in depending relation at thev'rear ofthe loop member I0.
Constructedn in -this manner the attaching yelement `I2-isv located wholly within-the confines of the loop member IILbetween the-opposite sides I8I adjacentthe upper-vends thereof. The tongues 24gof theattaching: element and the notches A23 inthe oppositefside-wallsaof the loop member provide interengageable-means 4for'colnnecting the attaching.: element and' loop member together whichfsecurely-'holdsthe attaching element substantially flush with the loop member andv pro-1 vides afconstruction Abywhich both the loop memberand` attaching `element maybe produced by a stamping operationfrom at material. The .projectionst29 ofthewallv 21 function to prevent inward bending movement of the tongues-2 in the notchesn23 so asv to retainthesameI-in locked engagement' with the loop lmember.I
'Ihelloopmembery I I)A may be fashioned of jmetal orof'syntheticfplastic-material and the-like while therattachlng elementI I2 is preferablyfashioned of-metaLY Thetab II-is of flexibleA material and is fashioned of fabric such as webbing Whilefthe button; -3I :thereof is of rubber composition.
