Claims. 1
This invention relates to a cover for tissue roll holders, and more particularly to such a cover adapted for use on open toilet tissue holders.
A primary object of this invention is the provision of a cover for tissue roll holders of the type adapted to be suspended by means of suitable arms or brackets secured to a wall, adapted to enclose the toilet tissue roll, and thus enhance the ornamental appearance of the same.
A further object of the invention is the provision of such a device which will protect such a roll from dirt and dust, and thus improve the sanitary qualities of the same.
Still another object of the invention is the provision of such a device provided with a transversely extending slot through which the tissue extends, having outwardly turned edges to facilitate tearing of the tissue.
A still further object is the provision of such a device which will be sturdy and durable in construction, reliable and efficient in operation, ornamental in appearance, and relatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, assemble and install.
Other objects will in part be obvious and in part be pointed out as the description of the invention proceeds and shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the inventive concept.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is an end view showing a tissue roll holder in elevation, and the device of the instant invention in transverse section applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a front elevational view of the device shown in Figure 1, certain concealed portions thereof being indicated by dotted lines, and
Figure 3 is an end elevational view of the cover of the instant invention disassociated from the tissue roll holder.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views of the drawmgs.
Having reference now to the drawings, there is generally indicated at In a wall, to which is secured a plate I I having outwardly projecting apertured ears I2 from which extend arms l3 of conventional configuration, the extremities of which are adapted to engage in recesses in a conventional tissue roll holder I4, adapted to support a roll of toilet tissue [5.
The cover of the instant invention is comprised of two semi-cylindrical, complementary halfportions l6 and I].
One of the portions, as for example I1, is provided adjacent the upper edge with two pairs of upstanding ears or lugs 18, apertured, between which are adapted to be positioned lugs l9, correspondingly apertured, carried by the portion i6. Pivot pins 26 are adapted to pass through the registerin apertures to secure the parts in pivotal related assembly.
As best shown in Figure 3, the ends of the cylindrical portions are closed, and each end closure is provided with a semi-circular cut-away portion 2| and 22, complemental to form a circular aperture, eccentric to the axis of the cylindrical cover, and as shown in Figure 3, being positioned above the axis of the cover, through which the ends of the roller M are adapted to pass. The lower extremities of each member l5 and I! are also cut away to form a slot 23. Each member is bent outwardly adjacent the slot 23 to form lips 24 and 25, which serve as tearing edges for the tissue carried by the roller l 4.
Means are provided for securing the two portions [6 and I! in related assembly, and such means take the form of a. hook 26 pivotally mounted, as on pivots 21, carried by the portion l1, and engageable with projections 28 carried by the portion [6.
From the foregoing, it will now be seen that there is herein provided an improved cover, which may be readily applied to and removed from an open toilet tissue holder merely by disengaging the hooks 26 from their associated projections 28 and separating the halves i6 and I1 and similarly replaced on an additional roll of toilet paper, which accomplishes all the objects of this invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility and commercial importance.
It will be readily understood that various colors and designs, such as ornamental pictures or the like, may be placed upon the exterior of either the member 16 or ll, if desired, and that the members may be made of any desired suitable material, such as plastic or light sheet metal, or the like.
As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiment hereinbefore shown, and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
I claim:

roller and freely oscillatable thereon and entirely enclosing said roll, end Walls for said shield having bearings on said roller, said shield comprising hinged semi-cylindrical complementary members, pivotal means for securing said members together, and an axial slot in one member disposed conterminous to the meeting edges of said members for dispensing paper therethrough from said terminous to the meeting edges of said members' for dispensing paper therethr-ough from said roll, said pivotal means consisting of pairs of spaced parallel lugs on one member, a pair of spaced lugs on the second member, each of which is disposed between the lugs in each of said pairs, and a pair of pins extending through said lugs to hinge said members together.
3. In combination, a wall mounted bracket, a transversely extending roller supported by arms pivotally depending from said bracket, a dispensing roll for toilet paper journaled on said roller, a cylindrical shield supported entirely by said roller and freely oscillatable thereon and entirely enclosing said roll, end walls for said shield having bearings on said roller, said shield comprising hinged semi-cylindrical complementary members, pivotal means for securing said members together, an axial slot in one member disposed 'conterminous to the meeting edges of said members for dispensing paper therethrough from said roll, said pivotal means consisting of pairs of spaced parallel lugs on one member, a pair of spaced lugs on the second member, each of which is disposed between the lugs in each of said pairs, and a pair of pins extending through said lugs to hinge said members together, and latch means disposed on an end wall of said cylindrical shield for securing the two members together.
4. In combination, a wall mounted bracket, a transversely extending roller supported by arms pivotally depending from said bracket, a dispensing roll for toilet paper journaled on said roller, a cylindrical shield supported entirely by said roller and freely oscillatable thereon and entirely enclosing said roll, end walls for said shield having bearings on said roller, said shield comprising hinged semi-cylindrical complementary members, pivotal means for securing said members together, an axial slot in one member disposed conterminous to the meeting edges or said members for dispensing paper therethrough from said roll, said pivotal means consisting of pairs of spaced parallel lugs on one member, a pair of spaced lugs on the second member, each of which is disposed between the lugs in each of said pairs, and a pair of pins extending through said lugs to hinge said members together, said bearings being disposed eccentrically of said end Walls for gravity biasing said shield and said slot to a predetermined dispensing position. 7 5. In combination, a wall mounted bracket, a transversely extending roller supported by arms pivotally depending from said bracket, a dispensing roll for toilet paper journaled on said roller, a cylindrical shield supported entirely by said roller and freely oscillatable thereon and entirely enclosing said roll, end Walls for said shield having bearings on said roller, said shield comprising hinged semi-cylindrical complementarymembers, pivotal means for securing said membem'together and an axial slot in one member disposed conterminous to the meeting edges of said members for dispensing paper therethrough from said roll, said pivotal means consisting of pairs of spaced parallel lugs on one member, a pair of spaced lugs on the second member, each of which is disposed between the lugs in each of'said pairs, and a pair of pins extending through said lugs to hinge said members together, said bearings being disposed eccentrically of said end walls for gravity biasing said shield and said slot to a predetermined dispensing position, and a pair of upturned flanges along the walls of said slot constituting severing edges.
